How do you clear off your driveway?

I have a top of the line snowblower. It has a big Briggs and Stratton engine and throws the snow a mile. I spent was too much money on it but I figure I will get 20 years of use out of it and I wanted something that would do the job.

I thought the heated hand grips was overkill but i have to admit that they are nice.

We have a good sized Cub Cadet. It's enclosed and has a small platform you can stand on. I've even used it once!

Funny you ask today, I almost collapsed shoveling by hand today. That’s mostly because I was sick and haven’t eaten in a couple days, but still.

My driveway is essentially a small street. Like you could fit 3-4 lots along it, if you could arrange it independent of what lots already exist. Half of it is a steep hill too.

And in the maniac move of the century, my dad gave away his snowblower to a friend…. who later moved to a condo and offered it back during a moving sale, and my dad is too much of a nice guy to accept it back. But it was all because of storage, which we have plenty of space for, but still didn’t want to keep it🤦‍♂️

We had a friend of his plowing for us the past few years, which is what it really needs. Like this is too much area to even really snowblow it efficiently. Like I said…legitimately like a small dead-end street. Last snowfall, my dad expressed doubt that the guy was around and still plowing, so I went out and shoveled in the scary hours because I had to go somewhere early and couldn’t wait for anyone to show up, if they were even coming. I guess he did cruise by but saw it was done so he skipped us. Gave him a call today and said he can keep us on his roster of customers, so hopefully this will be the last time. Shoveling that much by hand is CRAZY.

I know 3 or 4 guys that have fatal heart attacks shoveling snow. I used to just go out and grab shovel and just go until it was all done. I think I am too old for this.

Lmao, only because we go in shifts it’s like 2 minutes on, 4 minutes off. I have asthma too, so cold air is terrible for me, I tighten up just walking into the rink. Same issue when shoveling, strenuous exercise in cold air is a challenge. It was more the physical weakness from not eating for days that got me today, though.

It doesn't snow enough in the South to warrant a snow blower.

When I lived in the Northeast, I had 2 or 3 snow shovels. The kids and I (mostly I) would shovel the driveway and the sidewalk leading to the front door. We also shoveled part of the patio in the rear of the house so our dog had a place to do its duty. A typical 2-3 inch overnight snowfall took about an hour to shovel everything. A heavier snowfall took longer.

Later on, when the kids went off to college and it was just me, we contracted with a local guy with a pickup truck, who attached a plow to the front and plowed driveways for a reasonable fee.

I have a long driveway and it is 3 cars wide. We have not had a severe winter since I bought it 5 or 6 years ago. I have a 5 gallon gas can that I used to have to fill up once during the winter I have not used a whole 5 gallons in years.

I have about 100 feet of driveway. 10 hp Ariens 28" snowblower, 12" electric "shovel", pusher snow shovels, and traditional snow shovels. But to be honest, we haven't had the sort of storms that we historically saw in my region for 5-7 years. Now it's maybe a few 6" storms per year. I seldom use the power equipment now. It's a nice workout to use the shovels.

I just drive over/through it. I grew up rural. I'm used to giant snow drifts etc. Snow fences are common in high drift areas. We were always the first ones to make a path off our rural road. We would load a truck with snow and a few guys for weight if needed.

Ah I see. I was driving in the high country once and there was a snowfall. It was pretty but it disappeared when it hit the ground. Is it fun when it accumulates on the ground as in this pic? Sort of looks nice.
