Would you die with your child even if trying to save him/her meant both dying together?

For instance if you see your child is about to get killed (100% death position; no chance of surviving) and even if you try to save him/her, you're both killed. Would you die with your child or live without your child?

This is from the last scene in ''The Woman in Black''. The kid gets lured into the train tracks by the vengeful woman in black and is about to get hit by the upcoming train. The father sees this and jumps into, trying to save his child but both get killed. Would you do what that guy did?

I have saved lives before. You have a split second as your already in motion headed for that person.
Time speeds up
but everything is in slow motion
your seeing everything before it happens and if I new i a chance and it would be close I would do it. ..

As the same time as your seeing it happen you know you don't have a chance
I would stop and die inside but in time I would know that there was nothing I could have done. I would live with that pain until I didn't
