Do you know your neighbors?

Or are they still pretty much just strangers to you? Or all y'all buddy buddies and hang out and stuff, I believe very little people really know their neighbors like that, I don't think small chats makes people non strangers lol

Oh yes, I know everyone in my colony, sad thing is that none of them have kids my age. Most of them are retired government officials or health care officers or army people and their kids are way too old so I practically never had a playmate in my colony. Our closest neighbour runs a magazine publication and her brother who comes by often is chairman of a university (which by the way got into some trouble lately because a student suicided there). They're dripping rich.

Then we have this retired IAS officer (Indian Administrative services) who goes on a walk with my dad everyday and considers my dad like his son because his son kind of abandoned him which is sad. But he's dripping rich too. He has guns in his home! Obviously with licence.

You know this is the first time I've heard someone refer their neighborhood like a colony, it will always remind me of ants, although what's with everyone in India wanting to be government officials, some girl I talked to also was studying for that same thing lol

We call it colony or society here, my dad's the president so I live like a queen. And there was a time when my mom really wanted me to be an IAS officer but then I said it's not my passion and lured her by saying I'll be a criminal lawyer but then she freaked out and we settled with engineering.

Like she always chanted about how I'll be a good IAS officer ever since I touched 4th grade and she finally stopped when I was in 9th grade and decided this country doesn't deserve more lousy people in government jobs lol.

Oh by the way, being an IAS officer is like the most prestigious thing you can do in this country apart from being a Engineer who studied from IIT, cuz to get that job you basically give this upsc exam which is like the toughest exam in this whole world followed by Gao Kao of China and JEE (entrance exam for IIT, which has acceptance rate less than any ivy league). And in any part of Asia the biggest flex you can have is your smartness, apart from the fact that fair skin is celebrated, so being an IAS officer is like flexing how intelligent you are.

So that's the hardest thing to go for? Do they not have other highly intelligent choices of career tho like scientists or inventors or whatnot?

Well, no. The hardest stuff to go here according to ranks are government positions from upsc exams, engineering from IIT college, medical from AIIMS college, Law from any National law University, military from National Defence Academy. The government has a very low budget for scientists or inventors or creators, that's the reason why many stem major go abroad if they want to do research based fields and also the reason why many Indians aren't owners of company but CEOs. Our education system is such that they were you mind to be an employee, not an employer.

Yep that's all schools actually, it's why I don't feel too bad messing around in school and making memories with friends instead, the education system no longer shows you how to work for yourself and stuff, I heard at one point they actually did

They're annoying strangers to me.

Both of my neighbors on my left and right never shovel snow (I shovel a little on the left neighbor's side because the mailbox is there and I don't want to deal with someone getting injured) and have trees that just dump a bunch of leaves into my front yard. I don't have a tree there and I refuse to clean up after them so I just let the wind blow it back on their side eventually. Of course, they don't clean up their side ever.

And the neighbors to my right and across the street have like 20 goddamn cars, one always parked in front of my house. Inconsiderate neighbors get no warnings from me when they do something wrong. I'll simply call whichever authority is needed to serve them official warnings with fines for breaking city ordinances. I'm not here to play friendly neighbors.

I know across the street and next to me, but she is not to friendly. I think after losing her lawsuit against me 1.5 years ago she is not so hateful toward me tho. On the other side is a pasture with cows.

Yep, a storm broke a couple of limbs that landed on her car and truck. I turned it in on my insurance, and after their investigation, they refused to cover it. Said it's an act of God. I had a good neighbor policy that offered her a thousand dollars, but she was pissed at the adjuster and spit it back at him. She told me when it happened that she was going to turn it in on her full coverage, but I told her I had already called my insurance.
I didn't even have to go to court as my insurance hired lawyers for her small claims suit. She just didn't want her premium to go up. We were good friends before this.

yes, I have quite a close relationships with my neighbors...

we meet regularly, sometimes in a bigger group to talk, eat and laugh together

I sometimes babysit their kids or water plats or take care of their animals when they travel

I also regularly meet with a few elderly neighbors... and Drama Queen also slowly picks it up :D

I know them a little not much, they're pretty nice, they both helped me and my mother when we needed help and they're polite not too loud (except when they put rap music full blast at 9 am for some reasons but then I just put some music of mine and they stop the music quickly XD)

Yes, I have had the same neighbors for 26 years. We used to have block parties when we were all younger and it was always a lot of fun. I really do not socialize with them much but thy are good neighbors.
