I moved into this neighborhood 25 years ago. We have had the same neighbors since we moved here except for my neighbor across the street. He died a few years ago at age 93. We are not really as close as we used to be. We used to have a summer block party years ago. I cannot remember the last one we had. We all look out for each other and if I needed to borrow a tool or if I needed help to lift something heavy I can always ask one of them for help/
508 opinions shared on Family & Friends topic. Since I live in an apartment building that is enclosed little a hotel, it's pretty quiet here. Sometimes I think I couldn't hear a pin drop. It's very clean, and it's for people over 55.
Most of them are quite neighborly and nice. I am a very nice, and caring neighbor, so my neighbors know if they need anything at all, they can come to me and I will help them out.
This has happened a lot in the 8 year's I have lived here.
I think I will start my old tradition of hanging a bag of butterscotch and cinnamon hard candy on my front door like I used to.
Belitut or not, my little bag of candy has helped diabetic people that were in a low blood sugar crisis, and they knew exactly where the candy was to get them out of their medical crisis.

1 yDon't really hear a peep from my neighbors. Though they have a like I don't know 14-16 year old son who's definitely been peeking into the backyard when we're sunbathing. Don't mind, it's just funny that he thinks he's sneaky.

1 yI have three families that have homes close to me and get along fine with them. Their kids are quiet, for the most part, and spend a lot of time hanging out with each other outside playing baseball, football, basketball... which I like to see! I'll even get out there and play occasionally. My one neighbor and I didn't really talk much at first, until he brought a Chimpanzee home to live with him (he's a zoologist). I went over and told him if I see the chimp on my property, I will shoot him, no questions asked! He was very understanding and cool about. I actually ended up becoming friends with the chimp, he listened better than my wife and kids. The chimp was staying with him temporarily and wasn't a bother at all! I even visit him at the zoo occasionally.

1 yYou can choose your neighborhood but unfortunately you can’t choose your neighbors. As for the busy world we live in people are moving all the time & one minute you have the greatest neighbors in the world & the next minute you have neighbors from hell.
As for your tree situation in most states if your neighbors tree branches are hanging over on your property you have the right to trim the branches.
As for your city I’m sure you can talk to code enforcement or even better see if there is a safety inspector or department inform them that there is a hazard & you fear for your life every time it is windy or there is a thunderstorm.

I had a guy that built a brand new house behind mine. He seemed like a good guy and he told me that he used to live in another part of town. He actually lived next door to a friend of mine. This friend told me the story of how this guy's neighbor on the other side was a dick and they used to feud all the time. The guy couldn't deal with it anymore so he put his house on the market and built a new house behind mine. Before he moved the guy he was fighting with suddenly moved himself.

1 yNot so much. We have one adjacent neighbor that we like, but his wife doesn't have any boundaries and she can be suffocating along with dishing out mean remarks. We avoid them because of her.
We have another neighbor across the street who videos and tracks everyone's comings and goings. When that family fittest moved in, we were so thrilled. We reached out to them so many times, helping them clear snow, giving them stuff fortheir kids, etc. They are elusive and the husband is a bully.
We had a great neighbor two houses down, but they sold to a couple of snobs who we've met, but can't relate to.
Our neighbor behind us is still masked and makes his kids wear masks to play outside, soooo... Nope
Too bad I can't have some neighbors like you X7 or a few others here on gag.

I have two difficult neighbors at my vacation home. One is a drunk. She disappears once in a while when she is drying out. One day I was working in my yard and she was cutting a small tree down in her yard with an electric chainsaw. She was loaded and the tree fell on her and knocked her down. I ran over and lifted the tree off her. She was really drunk and I just told her to go inm the house.

It's a good thing you were there X7. You probably saved her life.
543 opinions shared on Family & Friends topic. Sure. Yeah, the older ones (in their 90s) are very dear friends who know us for FOREVER but… dementia…. So the rest of the gang has been a little quiet. The kids and grandkids aren’t all as sweet as the old timers, but some are ok and worth chatting with.
There’s also an old ogre down always. No one knew what his deal was, but it was his fading eyesight making him super cranky, so a few of us pool together to help out with shopping and such. I figure we all get old eventually… set the good example now and perhaps if we’re lucky we’re good role models and such.
So … not a perfect system based on “like”, but we all get on fairly well and have a mutual appreciation for each other.20 Reply
1 yYea, I like my neighbour. I think he is recently divorced or broke up with a girlfriend (he recently moved in). He has children that come and visit at least twice a week, I think. He is older than me; probably by 20 years. lol
We just say hey to each other and ask how we are each doing. Nothing big.
20 ReplyOne of my neighbors is a batshit crazy wife beater who I have to here screaming all the time. The mailman delivered a package of his to my house once and his father-in-law somehow got my cellphone number and my mother's cellphone number and called to say that if I didn't get the package to them the next day there'd be problems. I called back and said if either set foot on my property they wouldn't be walking back down. We got that situation resolved relatively quickly.
My other neighbor is nice. He's a bit of a know-it-all, a hippie, but also a good guy.
My other nearest neighbor is a couple miles down the road and I've never met the folks.20 Reply
1 yJust cut down the par on your property, the side that faces you. If it is on your side, it is your right to remove it.

Also, people don't have parties anymore because gang members crash it and cause trouble. That sometimes results in shootings.

I had the tree guy was cutting down another tree in my front yard. He was going to cut the other one down and my neighbor came out and told the tree guy she would sue him if he cut the tree down. The tree guy wanted no part of it so he left.
I wrote her a letter recounting the events of that day and I informed her that everything has been documented including what the tree guy will say and if the tree falls on my house expect to go to court. . We call her the queen because she thinks she owns the whole street.
1 yI have good neighbors, thankfully. Quiet and nice. If I'm out front, we'll chat on occasion. They are older though, so when they pass on, it could change. I know four of my neighbors, and I'm gradually getting to know the rest.
21 ReplyAs for the tree issue, I'd consult an attorney and make a game plan. I'd try to make peace with your neighbor, too. You could offer to pay for planting a new tree on her property if she gives permission (in writing) to cut down the old tree. I know she's being a pill, but the main goal is to get the tree removed.
So, the first thing is to pacify her. Get an assessment from your arborist on the danger posed by the tree and take it to the city or HOA. It might not get the tree removed, but she may be required to have it trimmed. She is liable if there is a storm and the tree hasn't been maintained. Someone could be killed (i. e. you), so it's in your best interest to pursue this, even to the point where you initiate taking her to civil court. You could also check her legal history and see if she has ever actually sued anyone. Most people throw that out there to scare others into leaving them alone. It's a power play.
I wish you luck!

1 yA bit , i greet them and they are quiet.
Once a brat was really noisy. one look at him he seemed like a wild brat.
So i went to the parents but didn't report the kid.
I said, " i am your neighbor. how long have you lived here bla bla"
when the brat came in, the parents said "you leave this guy alone , he is our friend" mission accomplished.

1 y@exitseven they who? Blacks or nimbys? I'm full up on nimbys but my area has been losing Italians and Jews slowly (and now quickly) these past decades but there are many Indian, Pakistani, Bangladeshi, Philippino, Chinese & Koreans moving in to replace them. It's all good with me. We could actually use more blacks and Hispanics here.

Anonymous(30-35)1 yi mean, i don't hate them
well... actually... there is someone down the street who loves to just let their dogs roam around. stand in the middle of road... etc... they are obese as all heck so why would i assume they'd take care of their animals if they don't even take care of themselves. anyways...
and then there's the people who let their kids scream and run around in the road too.
so you know what, actually, i don't like them. at all.
10 ReplyThe homes prices went up so high they couldn't sell them. So everyone we liked now rents their homes. Only 20% of the neighborhood is allowed to rent their homes but this rule is grossly bent. It's all drug addicts in mass rent-sharing. Another city rule. No rent-sharing without the owner living in the property. If I sued everyone for the troubles these people cause, serious problems, I would be rich.

@DrPepper12 This building is f***ed up with meth tweakers and other such lovely folk. In February, a dude died of a Fentanyl overdose in a toilet on my floor.

OMG!! Can you get housing assistance? Subsidy to move?
@DrPepper12 I want to move to an affordable seniors' apartment or community.
- 1 y
If these fucking NIMBYs would STFU about affordable housing it wouldn't be so hard but "I don't want to live next to THOSE people - concentrate them in the urban areas but send them to now my lawn please"
@DrPepper12 THOSE people = N******* (or the much less-polite "N" word as we're called when the NIMBYers and other kindred bigots bond).
- 1 y
@DrPepper12 Wait until they move next door to you. At least I am honest about it.
@DrPepper12 I may try to move into a seniors' residence, but like other housing, some are crazy expensive.
Anonymous(45 Plus)1 yThey have proven fundamentally unreliable and untrustworthy although at least there is an operational relationship that goes as far as it needs to.

1 yThey're alright. Nice enough people. I don't love some of the landscaping choices they make, but it's not like the decisions are hideous, nor like I would have any say in those choices, even if they were hideous.
