I am 30, financially stripped, living at my parent's home while I am about to get married, and struggle to maintain my only 2 real assets: a car and an old RV. I am always looking forward to the next disability check I receive at the beginning of each month.

Since I lost my tech job back in July of last year, I have never rebounded.

I am thankful I am not homeless at least.

I got gravely ill in my 20s and took about 10 years for me to bounce back both physically, financially, and professional. The first 5 years I was bed ridden and cold only really read books relating to my new profession. But I was stuck at home living w/ family and it sucked not knowing where I'd end up, not having my own money, and being sick is horrible to say the least. It wasn't until my mid 30s I could finally leave home again for the second time. In regards to being broke and living at home: It's quite common. It's been common since the 2008 housing market crash.

I am glad to see you have bounced back from your illness, and I am sorry you had to deal with such struggles. Any drastic, life-altering event can happen to any of us at any time like a flick of a switch. I am sure I am not the only one, and of course I have my own unique struggles too that hindered my development and growth. I am just awaiting opportunities again.

It’s actually very common for young people to still need financial help in the world we live in today. Shit happens dude. You’re not a failure because you fell. You’re a failure if you stay down.

I was struggling big time financially in my mid 20’s , but I’m doing okay now. My brother actually had to move back in with our parents around my age because someone he was dating maxed out his credit cards and completely ruined his life.

Very common these days. I know a few people in their 30’s who are broke.
Cost of living crisis, recession, job cuts, happening everywhere, anyone can be broke at any age.

Yes everything really took a major nosedive during the Xiden regime and post-covid. Now, it seems like I am hanging by a thread. Job insecurity is a major issue, coupled with inflation, a major shift in the tech industry, and just overall chaos and uncertainties.

Yeah? Although, you are Gen X like my parents and even my father had a house by then. My generation (Zillennial/Gen Z) is fucked, at least for right now. I am thinking there are some anomalies and even peers that had some boost/help from their parents, but my parents weren't in the financial position to do that.

I know many peers who don't own their own homes the more I think about it, including many from church. Some even have respectable jobs, such as a high school teacher or a software engineer.

If you have nothing you are doing better than most people considering the average 30 something has roughly $300K in debt between their home mortgage, car loan, credit car debt, student loans, etc. Having nothing is better than being in the hole.

I am surprised how lenders are able to grant them loans beyond their means. I had a decent credit score and I was refused loans due to Debt to Income ratio.

I've seen people go a million dollar into debt without even having a job before. A lot of lenders make questionable decisions to make a sale.

... I was going to add... I grew up in an upper-middle-class household. My grandparents were wealthy, and I was able to go to country clubs and yacht clubs with them. I had a solid upbringing, financially speaking, from a young age. I am actually shocked I ended up like this.
