How to screw a hole slightly larger than the screw on a metal mower deck shell?

I got a new deck shell for my T2500 Craftsman riding mower and I swapped over all the parts from the old shell to the new, however, the hole which fastens the bracket for the blade engagement cable is slightly larger and doesn't grip the screw from the former. When I drilled in the screw originally it didn't create any threading the hole. I don't know if I should buy a screw one size thicker than the one I have and redo it or what. Without it being tightly grounded I will not be able to engage the mower blades.
