How do you define safety?

Question

I am almost convinced that there is no such thing, and that it's mixed up with security. I would say that safety is devoid of risk. There are risks in everything you do. The alternative is that safety is the result of taking risks. People have said this is an interesting perspective without giving a direct opinion. I also find myself using this word in sentences, and I have no idea what it actually means. No place can be void of judgment either, we try to figure out whether somebody's a good person whether or not that is based on how they dress.

I would say that safety is when you are strong enough to handle your problems without fear or extreme stress. My example is, I could never work as a psychiatrist, because I am sensitive to unpleasant saliva smells and extreme odours cause me great distress.

I never felt truly safe until I moved to where I live now. Now we don't even lock doors or windows.

In my language, I don't see any difference between safety and security, those terms are interchangeable. Safety & security means  a state where one fears no harm . If expanding the topic, there is a big difference between the sensation of safety and objective safety. Since we are subjective beings, we tend to rely on our sensations, especially when we've been into prior negative experiences, that takes a lot of mental space.
