When you see a yellow light, do you go through it or stop? Sometimes you will go through a red light when you try.

The reason I'm asking is I was waiting the light to turn green and when it did I started going and this big truck went through the light and almost took out my front end. Kinda scary.

Depends on the speed. I’m aware if I have time or not as yellow light times are directly related to the posted speed limits on the streets on which they’re posted, i. e. if you drive down a street with a 30 mph speed limit, the yellow light will shine for 3 seconds before going to red, and with 45 mph it’s 4.5 seconds.

Something similar happened to my friend, he had a green light and some guy turned left, right in front of him, on a red arrow. At least the guy that hit him accepted all responsibility, didn't even try to defend himself.

My comment was in reference to your update. To answer your question, I've never been in a situation where I couldn't make it through an intersection on a yellow.

That truck wasn't going through a yellow light, he actually ran a red light and it had probably been red for a couple seconds, at least!

Depends on my distance if im a few feet away from the yellow light i gun it if im several meters away i just stop. When you first start driving it can be scary but as you gain more experience you just know when it's time to stop and when you can make it.

I try not to be a ticket magnet, so I look and see. If the light JUST turned yellow I gun it. If the light's yellow for 3+ seconds I slow down.

You don't know if there's a camera taking pics of you going through the red light and then getting a ticket in the mail.

When I floor it, yes. If I’m too far, I just slowed down and stop.

Yellow means "prepare to stop," That being said, it depends how close you are to the light when it changes. If you are almost there and slam on your brakes, you will slide into the intersection.
