Is life in your 30s different from being in your 20s?

My life changed drastically from early teenage years. That's how I attempted to answer my question. But I'm not 30, so how could I know?

It was for me. Very much so.

In high school and my 20s, I was a rock musician and had long hair. I hung out with surfers, hippies and rockers and partied like a Viking.

When I was 26 1/2, I was handed an opportunity for a really good job with great salary and amazing benefits.
The day before my interview, I got a regular hair cut and bought a suit.

I got the job but no longer recognized myself in the mirror. I felt like an imposter in a suit and no longer fit in with the kind of people I used to hang out with.
It took me a few years to get used to my new persona. But I eventually became an adult.

When I was 30, I bought a condo. I did some traveling and had some other great adventures through connections at work. I also had some of the most amazing girlfriends of my life.

My 30s were fantastic.

When I was 40, I met my future wife, married her two years later, and began a new phase in my life.

Life can change drastically at anytime of your life. But after 25, you feel older.

I’m currently 31, the world is a crazy place full of chaos and unpredictable things but I feel more prepared to face them and embrace it than I was before.


When I was 21, I was finishing up school and terrified of the unknowns of entering the world outside of academia, a structure I had known for essentially my entire life at that point. I was horrendously anxious and constantly felt lost for years and years and I kept looking for guidance on what to do.


And ten years before that I was 11, and getting my first period. I had suddenly entered a new phase of life about 2-3 years before I was expected to, and now I was no longer able to call myself just a kid, I was now becoming a woman. It was both exciting and terrifying.


In my experience there’s always a lot of unknowns in every decade of life, but they get easier to face the older you get.

some things are usually different...

if you compare early 20's to early 30's... that's usually around the times in which you are preparing for a career or occupation, and then when you've been (ideally) stablished into such career

another significant difference might be that early 20's you're looking after yourself... but early 30's you might be looking after a few people in your life, family

also... metabolism, VERY VERY VERY different to let go during your 20's and a completely different beast when you're 30's lmao

Yes. You start realizing your limits, your priorities change, you start realizing that you're not going to be young forever and ought to be thinking about what you truly want your future to look like.

As a long-term goal, I'd like to publish what I've written, travel, learn a few things like how to repair and embellish my clothing.
Shorter-term: drive, get a house

Great. Which ones are you working on? Learning to drive is pretty easy, learning to drive in traffic a bit less so.
