Hey everyone, As the saying goes, " If it ain't broke, don't fix it." I've been living at my apartment for 7 years now. It's affordable, I'm comfortable, and there are no issues besides a bug problem because the apartments are old. I'm having mixed emotions on whether I should move or not to something more upgraded with a change of scenery or if I should stay where I am?

Maybe the 7 year itch is a real thing. Now that I have air conditioner on I see nothing no bug

I'm about to move to another country with a significantly different culture though still in Europe. This wasn't a 7 year itch but a 10 year grinding down of my soul here that's almost cost my life. But I have a new start next week I'll be shifting most of my things and self there by road while my better half stays here because she loves it. It's a strain ahead but better than the slow death I'd been experiencing here.
It's not for everyone though. If you are comfortable then that's a win BUT if you're not a bit uncomfortable (bugs) then aspirations may be diminished.
This will be my 4th country since 2000 and I'm looking forward to it.
A bug problem, regardless how benign or not is always a reason for me to want to move out. Silverfish is a major issue and I would not tolerate to be in a place that has silverfish. As a matter of fact, I would get rid of everything where those silverfish can lay eggs, even furniture and clothing and move to a new place, that is not older than 5 years and that has been found by specialists not to have any vermin of any kind.
Once you have those silverfish or cockroaches, an exterminator will never be able to get rid of them permanently. They will always come back.
I would not move for a change of scenery but certainly to get rid permanently of bugs and other critters.
Okay I thought I was being dramatic. I can't with bugs that's my deal breaker. As a matter if fact I did get rid of my furniture such as Couches out of fear. Should I throw all my clothes away too or just wash them in hot water? I don't want them to travel to a new place?
Can't say one way or the other as not enough information. You didn't mention if you could comfortably afford to move to a higher rent newer and nicer place or what exactly is the bug problem. Most of those can be controlled by companies like Orkin and others.

I could afford to move once I pay off some debt. That's my priority right now getting things paid off so I can live comfortably when I do move.
Silverfish are common in some areas. They are most often seen in the area where the ceiling meets the wall. They love books and paper. That's why I don't mind a spider or two on the ceiling as I know they will help eradicate them. In fact, I saw a jumping spider pounce on one once.
Home is where you make it & as for your apartment of seven years if you are having a bug issue it needs to be addressed with the property owner or property management so it can be taken care of. In addition you should buy home defense & every month or three spray the inside & entrance of your apartment as directed & see if that takes care of your pest problem. What bug problem are you having & what kind of bugs?

They is an awesome financial plan. Stay as long as you can. Paid off debt, save enough to buy a decent place. If you want a chance of scenery… go on vacation, treat yourself.

Just be sure it's not a case of lovebombing by the newer options promising more than they can deliver. If comfort and affordability are your love language, staying put might be a snug choice. Change is thrilling if you're ready for adventure, but there's nothing wrong with a cozy nest. 🏡💖
How bad is the bug problem? You can always call an Exterminator to take care of the bug problem or have your apartment manager take care of the bug problem as well. To be honest pretty much every home has bugs one way or another , other than that, if you like where you live and it’s affordable you are best to stay.
It's an annoying bug problem more than anything. I keep seeing silver fish. An exterminator has came before but he told me it won't completely get rid of the silverfish because the apartments are older so it's coming from cracks. I even found a big roach for the first time in 7 years in my apartment after having a new washer and dryer installed.
Go buy Home Defense Spray at the store , they make an indoor and outdoor spray , i recommend you get the indoor spray if they are coming into your apartment. The stuff works great , I have both and ever since I been using it , I barely get any bugs coming into to my home whatsoever , it gets rid of so many bugs. Apply it every few months until your bug situation dies down , then after that use it once every 6 months. The stuff works great. My home sis surrounded by woods , so I use to get bugs like crazy until I started using this stuff , so definitely give it a shot
Omg thank you! My place is in a back wooded area. It used to be the woods until they started building apartments. We still get deer, fox, opposums and racoons
We have a paid off house. We can upgrade… but taking trips, and changing things around in the house help keeping it fresh. Saves a lot to buy another place.
@carolinacutie5 If you like it there, stay there, but perhaps have a plan to buy property sometime, and therefore, saving an equal amount in savings for 'that day' that you may ultimately own
@summeroflove I am it's chill, rents easy and I know the neighbors. I found out it's not an infestation. It's southern wood roaches not pest. I. see every bug as a pest lol so that doesn't do it for me
It's a natural pesticide. I recommend the organic type (can find it at lowes or online) and an applicator. Open the windows and wear a mask for the dust. Then you spread a fine dusting of it around your apartment. In cupboards, closets, in carpets and all around your couches and bare mattresses. It is better than any poison on the market. Natural and odor free. Do this about four times a year. The bugs carry the dust back to their nests killing other bugs. It's very effective as it sticks to their exoskeleton breaking them up and eventually causing dehydration.
It will not harm humans or cats/dogs (aside irritating the lungs without a mask and proper ventilation when applying) some people use this as a natural dewormer.
Thats not my apartment lol. That's the one I've been eyeing.
