Medieval style architecture. Grey or Brown stones?

So I'm picking the most neutral and practical design here to not evoke anything but just the rock color used.

That's like the only difference but it actually gives it a big impact on it's aesthetics. While both have their own aesthetic vibes, that's mostly not by choice. It's just based on what's abundant in their environment. Most or all of the ruins, old churches and forts here are gray. Dark gray to be specific and at first I thought they weren't special and the brown ones are like the luxurious ones. But it turns out I just got so use to seeing gray stones that made me think they're less special but now i prefer them actually. They look more dramatic and I'm glad dark grey is more abundant here.

"It's about the landscape" That's exactly the point of the the question. Didn't i say "It's based on what's abundant in their environment"? Sure functionally they didn't care about us the aesthetics but that doesn't mean both don't carry any different aesthetics at all. I'm looking at this from an artist's perspective not practical perspective.

It's not about aesthetics, it's about the landscape. It's about the 'unwrought' quality. A grey stone is a reflection of the earth itself, it's 'unwrought.' A brown stone is 'wrought,' it has a more living, organic quality. When an artist chooses grey stone, it's a statement about the relationship between the human spirit and the earth. It forces you to confront the physical substance of the world. It's more dramatic because it presents you with the earth in its raw form. So, you're not just picking a colour, you're picking a relationship with the landscape.
