I actually did just read about this and several other events in a book from "The Tuttle Twins" book series by Connor Boyack. We gave the set of books to our grandkids- fourth grade to high school- and they really enjoyed them- as did I.
Yes, and it you go into Paul Revere's house on a hot , humid day, you can still smell the molasses.
I think of this old song when I hear about the molasses flood.. I read the obituary of somebody who was over a hundred years old. He fought in both world wars and also was an ambulance driver during the flood.

A huge tank of molasses ruptured and sent gallons of molasses following through the streets
