Hey what do you consider living the dream? How do you envision it or live it currently?

I'm not here to knock vision boards... do you do a vision board every year?  Peace✌

I've had, and still have, an ideal vision for my life.
It's remained the same throughout my life.
A rural home, with enough of a parcel of land to ensure privacy, on or very close to good fishing on my favorite Ozark streams and lakes.
I have a mental picture of how the homestead would appear, to be arranged and outfitted in a way that would suit my needs and desires.
To share it with a woman who enjoys the same lifestyle, and to have friends with whom to also share in our good fortune.
I could paint a grander picture of it with words, but that would make this comment, which will already be long, much longer.

So, I do have a vision, material, as well as one being rich with close personal relationships with others.

In my younger days, that vision would have been quite attainable, but for many reasons, those that were circumstantial as well as those of my own choosing, that path was not taken.

My actual life has been very far from that vision.
I admit that I was rather bitter about it for many years.
My bad.

Instead of my vision, I've always resided in the suburbs of a medium-large city.
Minimally tolerable, but certainly not my vision.
Thankfully, I'm able to remember that I'm far better off than are many other people.

Now, advancing age, illnesses, injuries, and with my wife being in the late stages of terminal illness, that vision is now just a daydream of what might have been.
No longer bitter, having made peace with myself and my situation, I've come to gratefully accept my life as it is.

Oddly, though, with my family now going through much turmoil and trauma, I find that my life now has a purpose, which was something that had been completely missing for me until recently.

I now find that my purpose, to make my wife's final days as comfortable for her as is possible, as difficult as it is, and as much as my efforts seem to come up short more often than I'd prefer, is much more important than my vision of rural bliss.

God has greatly helped me in realizing my purpose, bringing loving, caring, supportive people into the lives of my wife, our grown son, and I.

For the vast majority of my life, I labeled myself "agonizingly agnostic", struggling to believe, but being unable to make that final leap of faith.

4 short months ago, miraculously, I began to experience much love coming to me from many people.
For a few days, I was dumbfounded, wondering what was going on.
"What sorcery is this?", were my first thoughts, to repeat a quote that I've somewhere heard.
It was that much of a change for me.
It wasn't sorcery.

I realized that that love, God's love, had always been there, but I'd been unable to see it.
When that love then began to flow through me and back out to others who are in need of love, I knew that a divine change had taken place within me.

Being human, I'm extremely far from being anywhere near perfect, but I now know that I am blessed.

I'm very sorry for the recent loss of your Italian Greyhound.
Losing a pet hurts very deeply.

We lost our most recent dog, Max, a very happy Miniature Schnauzer, to cancer a few years ago.
I no longer have the get up and go that's necessary to bring another pup into our lives, so I terribly miss having a canine pal.

I'm pretty much living my dream.
My wife and I have been married now for 29 years.

We moved from the Los Angeles area to our current location in northern California 22 years ago, bought 30 beautiful acres on a west-facing slope with an amazing view, surrounded by oak grassland. It had never been developed.

We built a house 2/3 of the way up the hill at the end of an excellent, 4/10 mile long, gravel driveway. We have our own high yielding well, efficient septic system, solar voltaic system, 2500 gal water tank on the hill that gravity feeds down to our house and yard. We also have a large propane tank for our hot water heater, furnace, stove and clothes drier.

We put in 18 fruit trees, including citrus, and surrounded it with a deer fence. We also have veggie gardens, herbs and decorative gardens, all fed by a drip irrigation system.

We compost and raise worms for the castings to fertilize the gardens.

We have a big, fluffy, marmalade orange, 7 year old cat named Poatie (POTUS). He's a sweet boy. And we have two 6 month old kittens, brother and sister, named Sterling and Pearl. They are frisky but very, very sweet. And we have a bunny named Pepper.

We like our 1600 sq ft home with its large master bedroom with large windows and a bench seat, large master bath with two sinks, a shower stall and oval bath tub, a guest bedroom and bath, large office, and open floor plan living room, dining room and kitchen. Skylights in the kitchen and master bath, and lots of windows, including 8' wide, 8' high, peaked windows in the living room facing north, 8' wide French doors in the dining room leading to the back deck on the south side. Our home feels open, airy and sunny. We have covered decks in the front and back with 8' wide, shallow steps. Rain on the tin roofs of the decks sounds nice.

We built a two story, 2 1/2 car, steel garage with two bay doors, two side doors, and windows on the top floor.

It's a nice rural area with neighbors nearby. Deer, turkeys, quail and other animals, including fox, raccoons, the occasional bobcat, and lots of birds visit our yard. We have bees, butterflies and hummingbirds. There are no bears or mountain lions.

We are a mile from a highway and a river. There are nearby lakes. There are goods and services, including a mechanic, a gas station and mini mart, post office and fire stations very nearby. And there are large towns within 25 minutes to the east and west. Large cities are an hour away.

Farms, ranches and wineries are all around.

The mountains are 20 minutes away but our house is below the snow line, so our citrus trees thrive.

We like the safety, peace and quiet. And we like being as self sustaining as possible.

I'm retired now, but my wife still works part time in the cute, historic town 25 minutes away in the mountains. She's a hair stylist and rents her own room at a salon.

The two of us take vacations together a couple times a year. Most of the vacations are 2 or 3 days, but we've taken some two week trips to Ireland, places in Mexico, and New England. We just got back from a two week, cross country drive to Cincinnati to visit her family and we saw lots of cool stuff along the way.

Oh, I do use a vision board sometimes and often focus on creative visualization until I get distracted and go running off chasing butterflies. 🦋

And to just echo some others here I consider living the dream being happy. And yes, I am happy in my simple, country life. 😊 Most of the time. When things go my way. 🤣

@cherrylove007 for me living the dream is by having a big family living on our big olive farm house, and have good income sources , where we don’t have to worry about finance, even for next generation.

And live together in happy and harmony life.

well if i have to come with a not that fantastic dream like owning a lion.

having an apartment where most of my loved ones lived there at different floors me owning a loft where there are 2 rooms and the bath in the upper floor and depo at the base of the ladders, bedroom being a small room with a window and the biggest bed i can found for me and my 2 or 3 bisexual wives who we all together with each other. the other room is my clothes room with 2 big mirror and clothes.

bath is semi offspring semi tub.

i share the loft with my dogs and cats (my lovers and if i have them kids are staying with their own parents they only stay with me sometimes not always but we are sharing the same apartment so we can see each other whenever) i have 2 L shaped big couches at the place i sat during day, a table that switches height in the middle of them and the television in front of it and a balcony or garden floor that is connected to my house if i'm living at the entry floor that has a large pool so my dogs can go out whenever they want.

this is what i can come up with, if i have to push more i want a lion.

I think I have dreamy life. Loving, open relationship with a beautiful woman, financially independent property owner, no debt to speak of, no kids to worry about, and a way to keep it all going and not be in the fascist USA if I don't want to be. I don't need a yacht, or a plane, or the jet set life style. We can go where we want, when we want, and afford it without worry. That's dreamy to us.

I don't see myself as separate from everything else. I believe we are all God we just forgot it. Accept that and the world becomes much more beautiful. I don't chase my dreams I let my dreams chase me. We created the universe and forgot we did. We have become so immersed in the world we created we forgot we made this world to experience. I don't think life is a problem to be solved. It's a journey to be experienced. I live my dream everyday enjoying life the best I can and just trying to be better then the day before. We are the awareness that is experiencing all the things we made, that's how I live the dream 😊

I don’t think I’ve ever had a dream or thought to far into the future. Honestly I thought I’d be dead 10 years ago still can’t believe I’m alive…
Even today I think I’m just watching my own life as if it’s not even mine.
I’d be happy just me my dog and a supportive female companion that would enjoy going for long runs in the woods, Gym close by that can support training for long adventures in the mountains.
A job that pays well enough and easy enough to do till I pass.
Everything else is just a side quest.

Vision board? Whats that? I wasn't born with the ability to create visions of my own cognition. The only visions that are created in my head are the dreams that I cannot control, which is far from anything that could be considered living the dream.

My life is where it in need to be, regardless of how others see it. The next chapter will begin when it does just that. I was really bad with revisiting the past and overly concerned about all the little decisions could affect the future so I try to stay in present as much as possible now. I could die tomorrow, or any after, so as long as I have a smile and can be the reason others smile, then I’m good.

I had an urge early on to travel around the world, to get to know other places and learn new languages. So after I finished university in my home country, I just packed up and left. I had an excellent job opportunty and could have easily taken over the family bunisess. My future was all laid out for me. Yet, I chose a different route and followed my own path. It hasn't always been easy, but I never looked back. I knew that eventually I'd be all right.

I've worked in my profession for a long time (I'm a mechanical engineer), I've managed a bar, I've done mountain tourism, and now I'm enjoying the beauty of life. I looked up "Vision Board" because I had never heard of that. Looks like a good idea. I pretty much live what I envision right now. My latest thing is to go on cruises when I can squeeze in the time. I've gone on 8 in the last two years. I'm not dating anyone right now and I would like to be dating a lady with common interests. I like road trips and hiking so it would be cool to meet someone who likes that kind of thing.

to me "living the dream" means deriving happiness from your current lived reality instead of intentionally chasing whatever could be better. don't get me wrong. it's good to have goals. but don't forget that were you are is good and it warrants that you're satisfied and happy with it. because if you don't do that, you keep happiness out of reach forever.

Aww the dream, reaching that place in life to slow down a bit and look around savoring the sunsets and sunrises. It’s going to include a family, kicksss wife and as my better half. Likely when the kids are out and in college or no longer fully dependent on their mother and I. When I can plan a few cruises, rent the moblie home and drive to state fairs and concerts seeing live “classic rock” bands from the 2000s
