I like the way he looks hen pecked and broken as she scowls at him. It's a lovely reflection of bygone days when men knew their place. She's even insisted he puts on his best jacket over his overalls for the portrait. Now that's control.

There’s no point in his talking. She already thinks she knows everything. I guarantee she talks at him though. Helen Keller needed only to get married. She would have heard everything her husband said in a whisper from around the block and lectured him for days on end.
