When i always paid in cash, i always pushed the dollar amount to an even dollar amount. That way i didn’t have three pounds of change on me everywhere all the time. Like most people, i got lazy with debit cards. Then covid was dropped on us and cash became the ultimate super spreader. Now most of your favorite retailers are charging an exorbitant fee to run credit and debit cards; fuel stations chief among them. Credit and debit users pay more per gallon AND a card processing fee. This of course was always the plan. Vilify cash and add thousands of fees that nobody pays attention to when they’re using digital currencies and payment methods.
So i’m trying to get back into the habit of using cash again, but it’s difficult. My paychecks are direct deposit. There’s a process to finding fee free ATMs and they’re not always convenient. I haven’t stepped foot inside a bank in years. The capitalist pigs are winning, people. We had a chance, but it was a long time ago at a time when this land would be unrecognizable to most of us.
Cash is always king & the fees for going cashless are a bunch of bullshit. I remember when there weren’t any credit card fees when buying things & life was good. Nowadays there is a fee for everything.
Should always be done when the pump stops. Overfilling could damage the vapor canister.
I have heard of that recently or something like it. Is the vapor canister in the pump or car?
I just fill it up. OCD people probably have nightmares about gas. Because every price is 9/10 of a cent on the end, it's like impossible to get both the numbers in such a way that won't trigger... whatever it is that bothers them.
Thank you for taking the time to answer my question & voting as well. An OCD nightmare I’m sure it is & at the pumps it’s a test.
I pull out the nozzle after the pump stops.
It doesn't matter what the amount is as long as I believe my tank is full.
My husband makes that extra effort to round off the amount to the nearest half or quarter of the dollar.
Where it stops it stops & where it stops you should leave it & good job on that one. A lot of people seem to round up & I’m guilty sometime as well.

This is funny.
Yes! I'm really OCD about rounding it up to the nearest dollar or, at least half dollar.
The odd number of gallons with four decimals doesn't bother me, but it's annoying when I miss my mark and go over by a cent.
I also record my mileage, the number of gallons, the dollar amount, and the date in a notebook each time I get gas.
Rounding up isn’t easy especially with some pumps. One little squeeze & you are over by two or three cents & I’m sure that has happened & drives you nuts. As for recordings mileage my father still does that & he has a little book as well. I have a little book in my vehicle & the only thing I record in it are my maintenance records. Oil changes, differential, new alternator, etc.
I'm always paying with a credit card not cash. So what's the point of rounding up to some arbitrary whole dollar number? Nope, I just pull out the nozzle when it stops automatically. I don't want to douse my car in spilled gas.
The only time I'll violate that norm is when I know I'm down say 10 gallons and the automatic shutoff triggers at 7 gallons. Then I'll know that auto shutoff on that pump isn't reliable and I'll take over manually.
Spilling gas isn’t the way to go & if you are using a card you are absolutely right it makes no sense to round up. Great answer & thank you for taking the time to comment & vote as well.
Omg, my OCD just goes totally crazy if I don't round up to the nearest dollar. Kind of like it's going crazy now just looking at the image u posted. Leaving the pump at 17.99 is just so, so wrong. 🤣
Rounding up isn’t easy & it requires skills at the pump. One squeeze & you are over by three cents or have gas shooting out of the pump. I’m glad I fired up your OCD & I’m sure you get it at the pump a lot or other places as well. Thanks for taking the time to comment & vote as well. Cheers to $17.99!
I try to end on a number where the cents end in either 0 or 5. It's not good for your car to keep pumping a lot of gas after it auto stops, since the extra gas can flow into the car's exhaust gas recirculation system and mess it up.
In addition if you add too much I wouldn’t be surprise if the temperatures are below freezing you free the line as well. Thanks for taking the time to comment & vote as well.
I use woman logic. If its $49.99 then its on sale.
That is probably why a lot of stores use weird numbers like that so you think it is on sale. $49.99 is usually what I spend on gas to fill up. A bunch of crooks.
i used to top it off but the system got too sophisticated to do this. i will only round if i'm pumping for someone else that needs that exact amount.
Good answer & if you are pumping for someone else rounding up would make it easier. I remember growing up you had full service stations where someone would pump gas for you or you could pump it yourself.
another job taken by technology lol but honestly i didn't want to tip for that.
I’m told by dad it’s not good to put more in once the thingy clicks off. Maybe that’s just my car. I dunno. I just stop when it stops.
As for your dad he is right & there is a sensor on the pump that automatically stops it when it’s full. When people top off the gas or add more you are actually filling up the pipe what goes to the gas tank. Some older pumps stop for no reason or because the sensor is broken or failing. I usually turn my key to see if the tank is actually full by the meter.
NICE TRY! That is a Liquid Crystal Display or LCD just like a calculator. It’s a zero p chicky.
The joker aims for 10.80 ever time however he’s so baked he doesn’t realize he has an electric scooter.
@Abbycado here is the hosiery in question

I just keep pumping until it clicks then I give the nozzle a little jiggle to shake out the last drops
After reading your answer my not so clean mind was drifting a little. We are still talking about gas pumps here right? Hahaha.
i just fill up the tank. If it pops early due to some sort of gas rationing I will estimate how much to put in and keep filling it. If it actually works how it is suppose to then when it pops up then I'm done.
The pumps popping earl happens a lot especially on older pumps & when that happens I usually open of my card door, turn the key & see if the gas meter is full.
I just close my eyes and let it be... I don't want to know...
That’s the easy way to go & when you close your eyes that is the best way to go.
Jesus... take the wheel
I round up to the next dollar. Then I shut off the pump but before I put the nozzle back I drain al the gas out of the hose.
A lot of people drain the drops out of the gas nozzle & I just started doing it before I put it in the car. Sometimes I round up to the nearest dollar.
I stop at or near a round Number amount. I do that because scammers probably will not. And I'll be able to detect if they stole my money.
Nice username by the way & rounding up to detect scammers is a good idea.
Where I get gas, it don't matter because it takes it off my credit card.
Absolutely true on that & when you use a card there is no need to round up.
I just fill the tank. The final figure doesn't matter because I pay by card anyway.
A lot of people pay with cards & you are right it doesn’t matter where it stops.
Where the hell is gas that cheap? I need to move there
Cheap gas is a thing of the past unfortunately & if you want to visit there you will need a Time Machine. I remember when $20.00 would fill your tank & now $50.00 plus. Also i remember fill service gas stations where an attendant would pump your gas.
Well, I try to get as much in as I can when filling the tank, but I will try to round it up if I can
Good deal on that one & I top off the the tank & sometimes round up as well.
Some times I try to round it up. It is almost impossible to get an even number though. Most times I just leave it where it stops. It makes little difference since it goes on my credit card.
When I pay cash, absolutely I want a round amount.
I don't drive, and don't own a vehicle.
Totally understandable & thanks for taking the time to answer the question & voting as well.
You're welcome.
I do it it's close to rounding up.
Good deal Jeff & the next time at the pumps I’m going to see if other people round up as well. Thanks for taking the time to comment & vote as well.
Why do the pumps stop early & my gas tank isn’t full & I have to squeeze the handle again?
I round it up
Good deal on that one & thank you for taking the time to answer & vote on the poll.
Lol I usually preset the amount first 😅
Presetting the pump is a great idea & I wonder if you can preset it using a credit card?
Have a great day queenofcardio! My favorite machine at the gym is the vending machine.
