Can you see the Northern Lights tonight?

Hihi all! Guess what? We're getting hit with a major CME tonite so the chances of seeing the Aurora Borealis are really, really good! An awesome chance for some awesome pics!

We get them here in Maine sometimes and they are so, so beautiful (Even if I have to be out in the cold) but we won't tonite 'cuz, well, it's snowing. Again. (I will spare u all my rant about how I whine and fuss all winter about how miserable winter is until it's spring and I can go outside again and stop posting on G@G about how miserable winter is)

Anyways, for those in range, I hope u get an awesome Natures Light Show!

Nope. Even though they were visible last night. Sky was clear, it was cold and air came from Scandinavia. However with naked eye it looks like green glowing over northern horizon. I guess with full sensor camera and 30s exposure time you can see other colors but with naked eye no chance.

I must have missed them. Normally where I live if the lights are flashing we can see them. I will have to take a look later tonight & see if they are out again.

I don't know if they have ever been visible in Southern California. Maybe from the top of the mountains. We have this stupid thing here called the "marine layer" which is basically low clouds for many days of the year

With all the damned city lights and the clouds or the city lights reflecting off the clouds, it's a rare night when you can see the stars and night sky well in Southern California. You have to go out to desert or up to the mountains

When I lived in northern WI, I could see them really clear.

Saw them late last night, but not as spectacular as you see in photos.
