Is there a God? Is it the Christian God. I say I believe, and I've seen enough in my life to feel it's not just coincidence. But sometimes I ask myself do I really believe or do I just need to believe. Because a world without God's love would just be too much for me to bear.

I know I only get ONE question here. But considering my question was a question of faith. If you disqualify this question, then my secondary question is, "are we alone in the Universe." I have lots of questions about all sorts of things, but if I could only have one definite answer to one specific question, I would like to know why the cancer specialist "allowed" my father to start chemotherapy in the first place (he only had about 3 more months to live once he got the diagnosis and the treatments made him sicker than the actual esophagus cancer ever did). However, since I will probably never be able to get that answer, the one thing that I probably want to know more than anything else is if we really are the only "intelligent life" in the universe.

Well, that's my whole point. They're already assuming that the guy is interested just from having a simple exchange. It's presumptuous, rude, and can create awkwardness. You stay cordial and friendly with him until or unless he starts flirting or demonstrating direct interest, and THEN you mention you have a man in your life already. You don't do that kind of thing right off the bat from not having enough information about the guy's intentions.
