Do people ever guess your ethnicity or ask what you’re mixed with too?

One day I was at an Icee stand speaking Spanish (I had practiced lol) and the guy suddenly asked if I was Cuban. That’s actually not the first time someone has tried to guess my background.

Sometimes people guess my ethnicity, and other times they’ll straight up ask what I’m mixed with. It always kind of surprises me because I never really think about how I come across to others.

Has anyone ever guessed your ethnicity or asked what you’re mixed with?

It is in general rare to find different ethnicity in India, especially if you don't live in Delhi or Bombay or Bangalore or Kolkata or Cochin.

I live in a state that even many Indians don't know much about. They called our state the 'India's Best kept secret' few years ago with the banners in airports and all. And foreigners are rare here, only Nepali or Sri Lankan.

Anyways, if Non resident Indians (indians who lived abroad for more than 1 year) or foreigners do end up coming here, their kids study in my school because my school offers GCSE and A level and IB course as well. And it is fairly well reputed.

So this Slavic ginger girl who is a student in my school asked me whether I am mixed black with something. And that was soo odd because of the context I mentioned above.

But that was actually so sweet, she fr thought I had ahh to mention me as half black lol.

I don't get asked often. Most people can accurately guess where I'm from based on my physical appearance and features.. They might not always get the right city but they do get the area.

Also English is my first language even though I speak another language. So sometimes people can be surprised when I speak my mother's tongue.

It's honestly so annoying. People will guess and pry as if you owe them an explanation. Why do you need to know what race someone is to know how to interact with them?

The way I look throws people off so I understand the fun in guessing but people will get mad at me that I'm 5 different things and they can't guess any of them. As if I'm the one inconvenienceing you.

I'm so sick of hearing people talk about race. None of the ethnicities I belong to did anything for me because I don't look like them. And then other people are going to talk about racism? You ARE racist. EVERYONE is racist as hell. Especially people who think they aren't.

White people think I'm black, black people think I'm Hispanic, Hispanic people think I'm black 😂 like fuck you!

I can picture your Creator thinking out loud during the process:
I'll take a little bit of Craxdilsuralian and put it here, then some Flisronigatilian there, and... wait a second, ... ah yes, I'll incorporate all of that into this fine human being that I've working on perfecting.

Yeah I've been asked before. A lot of people think I'm Hispanic and i’m not lol. I don't know I don’t understand why. I’m part Italian, German, French, Jewish and Native American from what I’ve been told so yeah. I’ve never done the blood test. I really don’t want my dna out there lmao

Not really. I am half Mexican/half white (so basically caucasian), but since I am agoraphobic and don't get out in the sun much, I have lightened significantly. If I do get out in the sun though I tan pretty dark so no confusion there either. At least that's how it was when I still lived in Texas. Not sure how it will be when living in the Midwest now.

Be careful , if you claim you get called mixed or mistaken for another race. People who are extremely jealous who look flatly monoracial will accuse you of wanting to be something else other than what your race is.

As quiet as it’s kept but there’s a seething jealousy certain people feel for mixed people , biracial people or even monoracials who aesthetically appear mixed or ambiguous. Just be careful these people will ask questions like this and get pissed off at the answer or argue you down , what your experience is.

Oh I'm a White boy. Sunburns and all along with a marginal tan in summer. Here in the US no one ever really has trouble pegging me as some sort of child of northern European immigrants. I get asked all the time but it's just boring small talk and idle curiosity. by the way German (father) and Scottish (mother). I'm a pretty common and vanilla denizen of the USA when it comes to my heritage.

Yes. I'm pale as fuck. Clearly Celto-scandinavian. Many of my non white friends have always suspected there is something else in me. Turns out ancestry. com says I'm 4% Senagal and Ubuntu tribesman. From what I know the Ubuntu are in the south and Senagal is in the west. I think they messed something up, but my friends believe it.

I am very difficult to mix up because I have fair hair blue eyes and pale skin so getting that wrong is a fail. Once I speak there's some doubt because my accent isn't obviously from where I seem to be from.
