I have no pet but I used to have a Boxer puppy dog named Fanny when I was about 3 or 4. By the way, I killed it, so don't mess with me 😥

That dog was just an omnivorous pet and she would just eat about anything. We seldom had leftovers at home. Even things that dogs would normally not eat, she would gobble it down. Of course we would not feed her chocolate as that would have been the end of her.

She would always beg for the apple we were eating as kids and if you are familiar with a puppy looking at you with those sad eyes, you know you cannot say not and I think she knew how to handle us kids.

That is similar to our lab. She is an old lady now, but she will poke a person in the butt if they take the bag of turkey deli meat out of the fridge because that is what we give her as healthy human food.

Much like your puppy, ours will eat anything. Celery? Yup. She gnaws on carrots if you let her. She will eat lettuce because, why not?

Pets are simply wonderful companions. I am a dog's person and not so much a cat's.

I agree. Sadie is 12 this year but really healthy. That is pretty old for a lab.

We get our temporary guest dog in a couple of weeks. I think I remember telling you about that. You can sign up to host one of the service dogs in training. You pick him/her up everyday in the afternoon and take care of them overnight for a whole week. We are really looking forward to that.

That is neat and a good idea. It gives the dog an opportunity to get acquainted with different environments and people. I know she/he will be treated like a family member.

We are all really excited to take him/her for walks. All we have heard is how well behaved these dogs are. We won't know what kind of dog we will host until the week before. Doesn't matter. It will be so fun to have a pet, even if temporary.

I hear it costs a fortune to train those service dogs until they are fully trained and independent and are able to perform what is expected from them.

I would think so. At school, the program is part of the Veterinary and Biomedical sciences. That is how I heard about it. I am in the bio buildings a lot and the vet students are also.

They get a lot of free student labor. In return, we get a furry guest for a week.

Dependant on my position etc they will lightly paw my cheek , press their head into my neck , run up my body and drape themselves around my neck 2 paws either side , head but me and softly meow.

My dog used to do yoga poses on command. She knew "up dog", "down dog" and "stretch". Ok, stretch isn't yoga, but it was cute when she laid on the floor with her back legs stretched out behind her.

I don’t personally have a pet, but my parents do and I visit them almost every week and occasionally take their dog on a neighborhood walk.
When we get ready for the walk, he spins around in a circle and all around the room and hopping as well. Sometimes he runs back and forth from one end of the house to the other back and forth relatively fast.

Sounds like our dog. She eats anything you give her. Her weakness is fresh turkey from the deli. We get a bag of 98% fat free turkey for her and give it to her as treats.

Yep. She likes blueberries, mango, banana. She will eat celery and lettuce if you give it to her. The most bland stuff, she will eat because a human gave it to her.

Does not matter if she knows the person or not, Sadie will eat whatever you give her. We just give her healthy food, like the fruit and lean turkey. Special occasions, my dad gives her a few pieces of steak.

Sorta like that. Any students can sign up. The Vet program here has a department where they train service dogs. Instead of the dogs being in a kennel during off hours, students sign up to host them for a week.

So, we just go pick him/her (not sure yet) in the afternoon and have it overnight and bring him/her back in the morning where they go to work with training. It is a win-win for the dogs and for students get a little visitor for a week.
