What do you think of this clever design for a window blind?

For centuries in rural Spain, this is the type of window blinds used in front of rural dwellings. It's made of a thick vegetal material. It is sufficient to keep direct sunlight out. When it gets really hot, moister it with water and the air that filters through is several degrees lower than the scorching outside heat. Sort of an airco before the airco was invented.

It's getting popular again and can be found in most do-it-yourself stores these days.

That's a "swamp cooler". It works well in dry environments. Even in the modern age it can be better than a modern A/C unit in terms of dollar cost and energy cost. Something to hold the water and a fan can reduce the temperature quite a bit.

I have a basement that sometimes leaks. I use a fan to help evaporate the water. The drop in temperature is very noticeable. I also had an actual swamp cooler in a place I lived. It worked pretty well.

The fiber curtain certainly looks better. It won't do any good unless the window is open, and it needs to be a snug fit with a good breeze.

I agree a clever idea to keep a room cool in Summer.

I would think this system would be used when the room is not occupied, otherwise the room would be dark, or wasting energy using an electric light.

Where I am I don't have a problem with room temperatures in Summer, and I usually just open a window to let a breeze into the room, though I could draw the curtains, and being white would reflect the heat away from the room.

Moldy blinds! Now that's what I'm talking about. Nothing quite like the smell of mold spores traveling though my house

They're used in a very warm climate. The air in the summer is hot and dry. You won't get any mold there.

That pic reminds me of an old movie in which a character hides a note or money or something in such a rolled-up window blind, to then be cleverly found by a detective, maybe.

Maybe it was a Thin Man flick.

It doesn't helf against strong wind and doesn't prevent burglary like heavy aluminum blinds.

It only works when you leave the window wide open. You would only do that if you're in or around the house. Besides, rural villages tend to be very small and everyone knows who lives there. Any foreigners won't venture far.
