Homeowners in expensive areas: how much do you pay in property taxes per year?

They Doubled my property taxes not to long ago. I now pay $5577 per year. Dade County is getting very expensive. Florida is very expensive place to live in Miami. I barely got my taxes paid today under the wire before April 1 deadline. Phew 😳

You are very welcome. 😊There’s nothing like owning your own home. I don’t like apartments and you have nothing to show for 10 years down the road if you want to sell it you can’t. But a house, you can make good money off of it when you decide to sell and move

My suburban property taxes are somewhat north of yours, for no good reason.
I'm headed for a more rural, tax-friendlier locale if at all possible.

That is exactly where I live. Our property taxes, by law, are limited to 1% of the last sales price in California. The actual price turns out to be about 1.5% of the last sales price because the local cities pile on as much tax as they legally can, so figure 1.5% Of the last sales price. That is the actual price of the last actual sale. Not the presumptive price that could be realized if the house were sold now.

My annual property tax is $12,000 the taxes on my summer house is another $8000. They are in two of the highest taxed states. I was happy to see that President Trump increased the SALT deduction.

I am actually going to sell it this year. we have not really used it since Covid happened. My kids used it but they would just trash the place and I would have to go up in the fall and fix everything that was broken and close it for the winter. I have no mortgage and can easily get more than twice what I paid for it in 2009.

I'm grandfathered in under Prop13 so I won't disclose exactly how little I pay for a 3000+ sq ft home on the beach, but it is less than the monthly rent on a studio around here.

Being grandfathered in you get a killer deal it’s amazing how I’m paying five times more than my neighbor and I’m homestead exempted

My state has a cap of 1% of the homes value as a property tax as long as it's a homestead
