What generation are you and how closely do you resemble it?

What generation are you? What are the common traits of your generation and how closely to you resemble your generation?

On paper, I'm a Millennial (later part of the first half). Our common traits and characteristics are that we're tech-savvy, team-oriented, ambitious for career progression and advancement, and idealistic and driven by purpose - among other things. On the negative side, we're seen as lazy, self-entitled, and narcissistic.

As for me? I'm somewhat of a blend between Millennial and the Silent Generation.

• - I'm not a technophobe, but I'm also not super plugged-in either. I'm not tech-savvy.
• - When it comes to the workplace, I care about my immediate team, but I wouldn't describe myself as "team-oriented". I would be perfectly happy to stay in the same role for the rest of my career if the money was right and I liked my job.
• - I am most definitely NOT self-entitled and lazy; if anything, I'm a workaholic. As for what I do? I don't care if I make someone else rich as long as I'm paid well.
• - I believe in having a good, strong, firm handshake and looking someone in the eye when speaking to them.
• -...but I do also like my goofy pop culture references and nostalgia.

Boomer but, so far, I don't think I fit the bill of how most people these days are complaining about boomers.
Most of the people I grew up with, the later hippy generation of the early `70's, have nearly all gotten high paying jobs, keep their hair short, if not shaved, mostly get into the music and t. v. of the `70's and, like most people that age, seem to think that psychedelic music is anything with odd lyrics and a fuzzy guitar. Or, anything they liked in their later teen years, even though it's nowhere NEAR being psych!!
They got heavily into disco when it reared its ugly head but probably don't like or understand anything from the early `80's onwards or from the late `50's and before, especially if it was never on radio and, most likely, changed their likes, looks and clothes to match whatever was hip at the moment. Anything that was hip yesterday needs to be thrown out today!!
I like older stuff!! Every so often, I wanna whip out my 78's and listen to them for a good while but, I also like loads of stuff from the new wave era and beyond. The only reason I stopped getting into new stuff about 20 years ago was simply because I just didn't have the room, anymore!! I already had about 54,000 records!
I don't change my clothes, etc. just to suit what's cool, now! T-shirts and jeans or shorts are fine with me! Tough shit if no one else likes it!! And, I specialize in psychedelic music!! Most of my peers wouldn't know more than a handful of the stuff I've got!! I was FINALLY allowed to let my hair grow in the early `90's and haven't cut it since!! I like wearing tie-dies and band T-shirts. I wish I still had all the ones from my band!! I never got into booze, smokes or drugs. I hated the `70's, except for the first 2 years and the last year. It was the lowest cultural point in the history of the planet!! The only saving grace was prog rock and 2 or 3 great t. v. shows!!
George Carlin once complained that the boomers were the Me generation because, "GIVE IT TO ME!! IT'S MINE, I WANT IT!!" I've never been like that! If I was ever a billionaire, I'd LOVE to walk up to needy people and give them some money!! But, the way shit's going, that'll never happen!! I'm just about scraping the bottom of the barrel, mostly because nobody will give me a chance doing the kind of jobs I REALLY WANT to do!!! I was just thinking a few hours ago, my friend, Bill loves books and had no trouble getting a job in a book store and then as a librarian!! My nephew likes shooting guns so, he got himself a job as a government sniper. I love records but can't get a job having ANYTHING to do with them to save my fucking life!!! And NOBODY will tell me who I have to kill or fuck to get a job of that sort!!

I don't endorse these labels much. But am I a product of the times I grew up and liven in? For sure. My generation was the first to deal with...

• Desktop computers and office software. Then laptop computers, then pocket computers.
• The "communications" revolution where computers started talking to each other.
• Computer games as an entertainment option.
• Computer programming as a career option.
• We grew up on 60's & 70's rock/pop and then 80's MTV music videos, then streaming music services.
• We started out with over the air broadcast TV then saw the cable revolution and finally streaming.
• Huge advancements in medicine in our lifetime.
• Our parents were the last generation of hands off parenting. We were pretty much on our own a lot of the time.
• Shitty American diets, LOL.
• We were generally upbeat, can do, hard working problem solvers.
• We polluted the hell out of the planet.
• We believed in the American dream even as it was being stolen from our kids by the greedy 1%.

I’m a Millennial, but I was born toward the end of the generation. I remember life before everyone had a smartphone, yet I’m also young enough to adapt to social media and stay updated with current tech advancements.

Gen-X: known for being independent & self reliant, skeptical and pragmatic, work-life balance, tech savy & adaptable, entrepreneurial can-do spirit, prefer authentic and straight forward communication.

Independent and self reliant. I'd give myself a score of 50/50 here. Am I self sufficient? I like to think so. But it's less that I accept help from other people than life has taught me there are no wise old men. That generally I'm the smartest person in the room. Or other people just want to voice their opinion and hear themselves talk. Few people are of any actual help.

Skeptical and pragmatic. That is me 1000%. It's hard to get over on me because I assume everyone is trying to hustle me. It's just my natural paranoia. And my pragmatism is off the charts.

Work-life balance is hard for me to say. Because I think I've taken life in stages. I was career (or more accurately "wealth" obsessed when I was younger). As I approached my 40's and 50. I did a 180. I'm not rich. But I've secured the bag so-to-speak. There is no reason to work myself to death for a few extra 100k.

Tech savy and adaptable. If this sums up a gen-X, I am not either.😆

Entrepreneurial can-do spirit. In my own way maybe. Yes I am all about building my assets. But as I said I'm very distrustful. I'm not trying to scam anyone, amd I'm not trying to get scammed. I stick to what I know works. And I've averaged a 15.5% return over the past 25 years. That's outdated the S&P, and I'm very satisfied with that.

Prefer authentic and straight forward communication. Yes, that is totally me.

To me, this gen classification makes a little bit more sense than astrology and as much sense as the MBTI. I think this trio belongs to BuzzFeed, like any other attempt at producing simplification to sort the world and that's it.

One grudge I have with this gen classification is that it erases the importance of culture (s). Because there's no way two guys born in, let's say the 80s, are going to have a similar social profile when they don't come from the same country, or the same religious background. Then there are also cultural differences to observe between rural, town, city, megalopolis. And if it wasn't enough modifiers already, then social classes are going to alter the recipe as well.

Really? If you're really 44, you'd be an early Millennial, though you'd be close enough to the end of Gen X too. My wife is the same way with Millennial and Gen Z.

My tech days was taking things apart to see how they worked, like cars , lawn mowers, radios and bikes, my communication was on cb radios to get a hold of friends and I eventually got an amateur radio license. My generation really never had much money so we always fix things ourselves and made the most of things.

A millenial but i'm more like the greatest because i was raised around my late grandparents who were born in 1919 and 1920, spent so much time with them till the point where i felt that the 80's isn't my era, even though i was born in the mid 80's...

I am actually gen z but I mostly get along with Millennials because I had more similar issue like a millennials, all my cousin are millennials.
Then I also get along with gen x because they are kinder to me then genz and millennials.
