What Generation are you?

Which Generation were you born into, and what do you think about people from your generation?

I'm a Millennial, and my generation is a mixed bag. About half are at least trying to be responsible. The other half have spent adulthood kind of goofing off and being irresponsible with no real direction. Which is fine as long as they take responsibility for their own choices, but many have been blaming everyone else for their own bad decisions. So, my generation has gotten pretty annoying!

Gen X here. I'm honestly not sure how my generation is perceived currently. Aside from the standard you're: old, out of touch, don't know how online stuff works... blah blah blah... My favorite is when I get referred to as a 'boomer'. No junior, that would be my Dad... good try though.

I habitually picked Gen X, but since I was born in year 82 I'm technically the beginning of millennials... I consider myself the bleed-over from the prior generation culturally speaking. My friends were much older, and my music taste among my peers was still metal while the majority were making a hard switch to hip-hop or gangsta rap... punk as I knew suddenly became another form of pop that would actually make it to the radio. I didn't like the new "pop-punk" like blink 182 and was more of a NoFx type. When I moved to an area that was more country... like they ride bulls, are allowed to drive at 14, and you'll see actual cowboy hats and whatnot... there it was Western/country, but some would accept my Metallica/White Zombie/Pantera type music as okay... there was no Snoop Dogg friends amongst us except some peers at school.

Taste in women was changing too. First, it started with bigger boobs, and it was all over with the giant butts.

That's just my experience... it all depends on where you live, and who you hang out with. Things were changing though. What was the norm, was suddenly not everybody's norm at the time, it was just making that switch when equality and acceptance was being pushed instead of equity and "accept this or else" like it is now being pushed.

I hate generational labels/identities. People will demonize or chastise a group of people for their age or blame the entire age group for something whom many of which really couldn’t give a shit about or didn’t have involvement in. Every age group seems to have the views of themselves be dictated by an arbitrary stereotype assigned by other groups or even members of the same group speaking on behalf of everyone. Not every boomer is a lazy social security sponge that’s super racist, not every millennial stands in the corner ranting about grunge and is anti social, not everyone in gen z is lazy, etc. etc. The list goes on and on.

On top of this are the discussions of random people saying “we as a generation” or “you guys as a generation” or “they failed as a generation”. It’s so stupid and pointless, there are too many people and two many different ideas, identities, and personalities to group everyone together like this, much less the fact many don’t want to be grouped into it, I know I sure as hell don’t. It’s not my fault someone born in 2005 for example, doesn’t want to get a job any more than it is my fault that someone born in the same year became a multi-millionaire, but yet here we are.

I don’t know, maybe I’m missing a bigger picture here but it seems really stupid to tack people and stereotype them based on how old they are and a generation. I’ve seen people shit on someone for being a millennial and completely shift attitudes after finding out they were gen x by a one year difference. I think the ideas of individuals and one’s personal values should matter and weigh far more than an arbitrary label such as a generation.

I'm a Millennial. We have the coolest name out of the generations and we grew up in a time where we transitioned from very little technological capability to where we are now with AI. We have the best of both worlds and have seen how technology is absolutely ruining the younger generations and the detriment of social media and dating apps when it comes to socializing. I think most of us miss simpler times when people rang doorbells instead of texting and no cancel culture or this progressive movement. We had the best childhoods. And because we grew up during the big transition in technology, we aren't completely helpless when it comes to technology. We're just not as good as other younger generations with it. And I think we have better social skills and thicker skins than the younger generations as well. I might be biased, but I think our generation probably has the best of both worlds. I feel bad for children nowadays growing up with phones in their hands.

I'm also a Millennial. I would say that there are great things about us, we are aware of many problems that previous generations weren't. But at the same, we carry a lot of burdens. So, I can see why you think that we're a mixed bag Lol
