I was born in mid 1998 and am an early 2000s/early 2010s kid.

childhood is normally defined as from birth to age 12. However a child’s earliest memories tend to be from age three.

Childhood may include teens to some people so that would end at 19. (For me that was middle of 2017)

I define my childhood as being between 2002-2011 (age 3-and-a-half until my 13th birthday).

Technology might change the using of words might change but the core issues prevailed throughout any generations.

Generation z as you say is intelligent no doubt as its the demand of this generation and possibly gift of millennials 😜.

But I am sorry to say what I have seen is Gen Z kids are more depressed and worry to much they are very sensetive yet hide it with false anger.

Year was 1998 and remember some bits about holiday that with family went to. cornwall. I knew I was a summer baby in 15 of July. The biggest events that I remember is was I. College that I very bad experience with some women become friends since I got the must attention guys and did have some some relationship that was ended because some them did cheated. This why I don't even trust some wome. They always judge me more.. I think I part of gen Z.

You might remember little events from when you are three onwards but not necessarily. I don’t remember absolutely everything but I do have vague memories going back to even just before I turned three. My clearest memories are probably also from around age seven onwards.

That’s interesting! I also suffered rather traumatic events however I happen to be the opposite and actually clearly remember all the traumatic events. I think it’s probably to do with how we deal with trauma. I suppose some of us might try to block it out whereas others may be putting a lot of focus on the traumatic events. Who knows, eh?

Why? The definitions are decided depending on what experiences each generation cohort had in their early years. I think they’re all good. My favourite generations are Gen X and all the generations preceding it. I don’t like the Millenial and post-Millenial generations.

Here's why those definitions are bullshit and I will use the term you are using: COHORT.

An 18-year age range that includes two people does not put the two people in the same cohort at all.
For example, I am born in 1963 not 1946. According to the above definitions, I am a Baby Boomer and so is my buddy at work is named Dave and he was born in 1946. He's a hair over 16 years older than me. We get along great and have a lot in common.

He's a true Baby Boomer which was that burst of children born right after WW 2 when millions of men came home from the war and had sex with their wives.

But, my friend is:
1. Only 3.5 years younger than my mother.
2. 1 year older than my stepfather and my ex-girlfriend's mother.
3. 1 year older than my ex-girlfriend's mother.

So, he's practically a generation older than me. I am not really a Baby Boomer. But don't get me wrong: Boomers were and are large part of my life. But many of them are retired now and it is the ones close in age to me that I deal with.

While Dave was worried about getting drafted to go to Vietnam and protesting the war, I busy fingerpainting in Kindergarten. When he was almost 17 when Kennedy was assassinated, I was a baby in my playpen. When he was 22 and wondering if he was going to go to Woodstock, I was 6 and wondering why Buzz Aldrin looked so much like my uncle that it confused me a bit.

Cohort means a lot of things to a lot of people.
In the statistical sciences, a cohort is a group of people (or other subjects) that have similar characteristics.

In demographics, a cohort is people who are roughly the same age. An 18-year window for grouping together people is ridiculous because the experiences and priorities of the persons on each end of a group are more in common with the people on the end of the nearest adjacent group. So, for example, I have a lot in common with people who are "Tweeners", like me. We were born during the Kennedy Administration. I also have a decent amount in common with those to about 5 years younger than me... but really, that's it.

A cultural cohort really means two things:
1. People who lived near each other so they'd have the same basic culture.
2. People who were close in age at the same instant in time.

For instance, Dave and I are both Americans from the northeast. We do have a lot in common because of that - we share mostly the same basic culture even though we are 16 years apart in age. I have more in common with him than, say, a kid born in 1963 like me but born in China. The Chinese kid is not my cohort at all. Dave is closer to being my cohort because of where we grew up.

BUT Dave is not really my cohort because our age difference makes it so that we do not have common cultural touchstones as we were growing up. He remembers Elvis and The Beatles on Ed Sullivan. I do not. He remembers Vietnam because there was a good chance he was going to get drafted. The draft ended before I was 11 and the war ended when I was 12.

I could on and on and on about this, but besides the two rules above for a cultural cohort, I am going to add a good rule of thumb about the age part:
If someone is more than 6 years older or younger than you, they are really not in your cohort because:
1. There will be events that you will not share.
2. Your priorities will be different.
3. The technology may be significantly different.
4. The arts - music, movies, and now social media and the rest of the Internet - may be significantly different.

And, again, that's only a rule-of-thumb. Even a year or two could make a major difference if there is a major historical event such as this pandemic.

By the way, do you know where "Generation X" comes from?

While the phrase had been around for a while, such as Billy Idol's group "Generation X", it broke out into the mainstream and began to be used by the media in 1991 when Canadian author Douglas Coupland wrote: "Generation X: Tales of an Accelerated Culture".
(Wikipedia explains it but I didn't need Wikipedia - I lived it.

Coupland got that term "Generation X" from Billy Idol's band.

Notice that Coupland is technically a Baby Boomer because he was born in 1961. The characters in his book would be cohorts of his and mine - they were all about our age. Besides "Tweeners" (being between the Baby Boomers and Gen-X as now defined) were are also considered as "Generation Jones".

where did you get the term "gen alpha" from?

From research. Gen Alpha is the newest generation who are mostly the children of Millenials but some of the Alohas being born today are born to teenage Gen Z or Gen Z’s in the early 20s. Alpha will end in 2024 and make way for Gen Beta from 2025-2039. Gen Beta will be the children of Gen Z. Then will come Generation Gamma who will be the children of gen Alpha and the youngest Gen Z.

This is because after X, Y and Z comes Alpha, Beta and Gamma. After Gamma will come Gen Delta who will be mostly the grandchildren of Gen Z and the children of Gen Beta.

There are a few more before the centinurials will arrive who’s birth years head into the next century.

Generational theorists like Neil Howe and William Strauss and they are based on the early childhood experiences of each generation. For instance Gen Z was evaluated to start at 1997 and end in 2011 because Gen Z kids grew up with iPhones as their first gadgets and don’t remember a time before a digital world. They are either too young to remember 9/11 or were born after it so they grew up entirely in a world post-9/11 and during Obama’s presidency. Some came of age during Trump’s presidency.

It depends on the experiences of each generation and new developments in the world.

No. By no definition is Gen Z ever after 2000. It is used to be considered from 95-2011 but it has been re-evaluated to 1997-2011. I don’t know where you get that from. All workforces list it as from the late 90s to the early 2010s.

Are you from India? It seems like only Indians are confused about generations. I saw a couple other Indians say this on other sites. Literally nowhere it has never been published to be after 2000. Search Gen Z birth years in Google and you will always see either starting years 1997 or 1995. Either way it has been capped from 97-2011.

You may feel slightly different because the kids born at the end of Gen Z birth years will have some things in common with Gen Alpha which comes after us. I was born in May 1998 and my brother in Jan 2009 and I have got a lot in common with him as well as quite a bit different from him.

Most of our (Gen Z’s) children will belong to generation beta which is going to come after Alpha. Generation Beta kids will be born between 2025-2039.
