Both.

Where you come from built you into the person you are. The good. The bad. And the ugly. Without adversity you'd never know what you are capable of. You'd be untested and unaware of what you are capable of. So let go of the bad stuff but hang onto the lessons it taught you young lady.

Now, where are you at this moment and where do you want to go from here? This is where those hard lessons come in handy to shape your choices that will determine where you go from here and why. You're smart enough at this point to realize that wanting something does not make it happen. There will be risks. There will be uncertainty. There will be hard work. There will be sacrifices. Else arriving where you want to be would hold little meaning for you.

That's the way I view life. The past matters. It informs your choices and shapes your character. But the destination is the ultimate goal.

Depends on the aspect that you are considering. When pursuing goals it's great to have a long memory to bring all your experience, failures and successes to the table, and to keep your goals small and achievable (of course you'll still be keeping the bigger picture in mind, but that will focus more as you near the end). On a personal and emotional level I think it's safest and most effective to stay in the moment you have right now as much as possible. You can get too high or low dwelling too deeply on the failures and successes of what came before, and thinking too far ahead, in relationships especially, can lead to unrealistic expectations. You may find yourself upset that someone didn't play the role you wanted, but that's on your expectations. Past and future can both be helpful in their ways, but this moment, right now, is the most important.

Where I am going matters more to me than where I come because we can't really do much about the past except learn from our mistakes and try our best not to repeat them, but there is so much to look forward to by looking towards the future that makes it more important than looking at the past. Yes it's great to take notes on what has already happened in your life but there's nothing you can do about changing it which makes it kind of futile to stay there.

Where you're going matters way more than where you're from. With that said, where you're from can be an indicator of where you're going. E. G. if I ask someone who just graduated what they studied in college and they reply "business," I'll be a more than a little surprised if they end up becoming an astrophysicist.

Well for example in your past, if you were an ex convict and sentenced to prison, yes it’s nice to rehabilitate yourself and head into the right direction, but I fear that you’ll relapse and resort back to your old ways and I don’t want to risk it that would put me in a situation that I’ve never been in my life such a high gamble on a woman like that

Where you've been can help inform you as to where you're going, for better or for worse. Untimely, people should be aware of what is in front of them, but be mindful of what's behind as well.
