How often do you take your top off?

Earlier today I was driving my tractor along a narrow country lane when I noticed eight vintage convertible sports cars following me. I've no idea what they were just they were very old so I assume they were heading to a car show or something.

Naturally I slowed right down so I could get a better look in my mirrors and I noticed all of them had their tops down which I thought was strange because the wind is around 30mph at the minute.

So if you drive a convertible, how nice does the weather have to be to take your top off?

I used to own a Mercedes SLK-350 with a hardtop roof that would automatically unhook and store itself in the trunk in 22 seconds. I would often pull up to a red light on my way home from work (or even going in sometimes but the hair… you know) and just push a button and by the time it was a green light I was good to go… topless. I did this whenever there was a nice day.

Here is a video of an SLK 200 which has a much smaller engine than mine and shouldn’t be called a sports car but this is how the hardtop convertible takes its top off.

I've driven convertibles in all kinds of weather. I had a hard top that bolted on, which I used only during December and January. Even so, I've driven them around the freezing point, in really hot weather, in rainy conditions... In fact, slight rain goes over the windshield and doesn't get you wet. As long as you don't have to stop at an intersection, which of course happened a few times.

Having a convertible and not driving around without the top most of the time kills the joy of driving one.

I’ve got a MK1 convertible golf grip, if you drive with your top off on scorching sunny day, the breeze in the car discuses you realising that you are getting sun burnt which results in you getting the biggest 45 degree twat tan from the seatbelt. A huge white stripe across your. NOOOOO

I used to have a 1973 Chevrolet Blazer convertible. On Christmas Eve 1999 or 2000 my brother and I drove it on the freeway with no mufflers and no top to my dad’s house 50 miles away. It was about 45 degrees coming back at night, but I had rigged the heater to run full blast. That heater was so powerful that if you sat in the front seat with the door windows up, you were still warm going 80 mph down the freeway with no top on the truck. Oh we don't do that anymore. My wife sold her beautiful yellow 2009 Pontiac Soltice convertible for an old Dodge truck because she rediscovered her love of horses. So, for the past 15 years, I've gone from possible early retirement to certain work-until-I-die.

You should have taken  your  top off to join the festivities and show solidarity. 😃😉 I never had a convertible. It never appealed that much to me. I have a power sun roof in my Rav4 but I never even use that. I don't need wind in my card.

So in my 2 locations , Melbourne you celebrate sun and go with the weather , Hua Hin Thailand a little different , consider , sun / rain / air / aircon , length of drive , changing conditions..

I took it off 3 days ago and haven't had it on since. It's too hot to wear it, now.
You don't need nice weather to take your top off. Let `em come out to play!! They'll love you for it and so will nearly everyone else.
