It depends on what it is. Like I have a friend who I borrow video equipment from and all of his stuff is in nearly immaculate condition.

Lenses, of course are the exception but my light stands for example, I literally throw them around 😂 everything I own is scraped and scuffed. If the damage has no impact on the tools ability to function properly, I don't care.

One time when I was working with this guy I was carrying too many stands in one hand and when I put them down he's like dude you scratched it!

And not that I don't feel bad but it didn't even scratch past the paint. Like I have no idea how he saw it from 6 feet away when he wears progressive glasses 😂

So whenever I borrow his stuff I wrap it in towels and bedsheets.

So in short I just have a habit of treating things I borrow better than it's owner and sometimes it's a little stressful.

As for borrowing stuff it happens & from time to time people borrow stuff from me & vice versa. The only thing I don’t let people borrow is money, I’m not a bank.

The last thing I borrowed was a table saw from my neighbor & believe me I cleaned it & returned it shining as a little thank you.

Overall I rarely ask to borrow things but if I do I return them in a timely manner.

I'll ask if I need to, but I prefer not to. Sometimes it's awkward depending on who you're asking.
