But then they want $100 to ship it because it's so damn heavy and it has to be covered well to prevent lead exposure along the way. I try to get lead for free or low price at tire shops and roofing places, but they often tell me no as it's a violation of their contract, so they go through the trouble of tossing the shit in a truck, driving to the scrapyard, and dropping it off for no money rather than let me have some

u +1 yCompressed air to fill tires at convenience stores/gas stations. It was ALWAYS free when I was a kid.

@rcljr Most of those devices are built cheaply and do not work very long before failing. I need to buy a compressor that runs on 110 V power and use it at home.

SO many things were free- bone scraps from the butcher for the dog (now $3.99 at a local store) comes to mind. but I digress - -- - - I use my 6-gallon Bostitch pancake compressor. Got the compressor, brad nail gun and large finishing nail gun for $170 several years ago. Later added a blowgun and stapler. Use it for my car tires, dusting out the garage with the blowgun attachment, dusting off floor before laying tile, blow dandelion seeds out of the AC unit in the yard, lots of things. It's earned it's keep and is still going strong. You can always fill the tank at home, and then take the "tank-of-air" with you on the road, if need be.

Thanks for MHO!

Not only that, those pay air compressors suck, try getting 80 PSI in your truck tires, can't do it.
Granted I know WHY they stopped having them, idiots would destroy them and service station owners didn't like to keep replacing them.
The last gas station here, had a sign out, to wrap it up when done, that they would only replace the air hose once every couple of years, if someone broke it, it would be taken out... well it got taken out.

Our average price per litre is £1.32 per litre. Reverse that and you get a price of £4.99 per us gallon or $6.83 in your money. Sounds like you're enjoying cheap fuel over there.

compared to you, we are - but keep in mind that most cars (at least in California) have a lot of smog equipment that reduces their gas mileage. Also, the fuel here is diluted with alcohol which also reduces gas mileage. I'm not sure how to do a direct comparison but our cars are not as fuel-efficient as yours.
- +1 y
The fuel isn't the biggest waste in terms of fuel efficiency. A lot of Americas drivers don't drive manual gearboxes (stick shift to the mechanically illiterate). Automatic gearboxes waste a lot of fuel needlessly. Switch the cars to more efficient models and it'll immediately save money and benefit the planet.
- +1 y
That's not actually true, and hasn't been for 25-30 years. Older cars with 3-speed automatic transmissions were less fuel efficient than 4-5-speed manuals, but once 4+ speed autos became common, the difference disappeared. Hell, we have Hondas with 10-speed autos, and manuals are only available on a handful of cars anymore. But for cars that had manuals and autos available, there was no significant difference in MPG (autos would occasionally rate slightly better, in fact).

I inherited a small house that belonged to my grandmother and it’s hard for me to wrap my head around the idea of paying taxes every year on something I own.
14 Reply- +1 y
Renters also pay property taxes indirectly, and they don't even OWN the place. LOL
As for electric cars.. l'm all for them, but this might not be the right time to buy one. Electric cars on average will save you $800-$1000 per year in fuel costs. But...![What’s something you really resent paying for?]()
Electic Chevy Bolt
$31,000![What’s something you really resent paying for?]()
Gas Chevy Spark
$13,000
So maybe you'll break even after 15 years, but unfortunately, the batteries will have to be replaced after 10 years, at about $5,000 a pop.

+1 yI resented paying child support to my ex, when I knew not a dime was going to our child, she called that her money and spent it on herself, so I still had to take my daughter shopping buy her cloths, back to school stuff and everything else.
The system for child support is a huge joke, there is nothing in it to make sure the money actually goes to the child.10 ReplyIn italy 0,264172 Gallons ( 1 liter) costs 1,56 euros ( which is 1,84$ per not even a quarter of gallon lol) and I also resent paying for gasoline... SIGH

16 Reply- +1 y
Electric cars are $$$ here, and the state is talking about taxing them even more since they don't use gas so the state loses money on the gas taxes Electric power is expensive as hell here, so recharging them is not exactly free. As for "live where you don't need a car", you MUST be joking. This is California - you absolutely need a car.

That’s what happens when high school kids with no experience want $15.00/ hr starting wage, the price of everything goes up because the company owners are still going to keep their profit margins the same, because they want to retire one day. I won’t even discuss 50 years olds working at McDonalds or the lame asses that think welfare is a career path.
