The best fighting army in history must be the British.

At Britain's peak in 1920 they had the largest overall empire in history spanning every continent in the world.

It covered approximately 26% of the Earth's land area, and governed 450 million people.

The British Army has a long standing global reputation for excellence, largely due to it's historical rigorous infantry training, battlefield discipline, and adaptability across centuries of conflict.

It's elite training and historic command have earned it respect as one of the world's most formidable fighting forces.

You have a point. But I am inclined to choose between Ghengis Khan, Alexander the Great, the Roman Army, and Hannibal's Army. I think as a fighting force all these are superior to the British forces. I think the British managed to expand their territory as much as they did more due to their strategy rather than fighting tactics. Not that they were poor in tactics just not the best in history I think.

German army during WW2. How they did what they did with largely a horse drawn army vs fully mechanised armies and a sever lack of fuel and strategic resources i don't know. Maybe it was because they were all high on amphetamines for most of it.

But horses bows and arrows were all that they had back then. So its not like they stand out because they conquered all that land with inferior weapons!

Yes it is your opinion, but you keep bringing up the weapons they had at the time. Now you say that they are minimal weapons. I don't know what you mean by minimal. Maybe when compared to today's weapons they are minimal. Swords, spears, bows and arrows, and chain mail were the top weapons they had at the time. Both sides had time. And they are all very deadly the weapons I just mentioned. So it is not like the opposing side of the Mongol army had tanks. Or guns. What you can say is that they conquered a lot of territory for the time. But not conquered a lot of territory despite having inferior weapons. That is not the case.

Actually had you included the Gurkhas in your pole I would have voted for them.

From what I've read, seen and heard I consider them to be the finest, loyal and most feared army in the world.

And thankfully just a few years ago the UK gave them full recognition for their outstanding services and now have the same welfare and rights as regular British soldiers.
