They say the mind is a terrible thing to waste.
Am I losing mine?
I woke up this morning and immediately started whistling Beauty School Dropout from the oldies movie Grease.
I have no idea what triggered it, and I can't seem to get rid of it. It's been months since I last watched the movie or any clips from it. I'm no longer whistling it but it's playing on repeat in my head.

I think that can't-get-a-song-out-of-my-head experience is quite common. Nothing to worry about. . . yet. :) :) :)
That happens to me all the time. A while after waking up, I realize that there is part of a song running on repeat in my head. Andi is rarely because I heard the song recently.
It can be a theme from an old TV show or the jingle from a commercial from my youth, an oldies song I haven't heard in decades, or a more recent song.
It has become a thing between my wife and I. I'll say "Want to hear the 'song of the day'?" She'll roll her eyes. Then I mimic part of the instrumental with my voice and sing the words I can remember.
Sometimes she recognizes it but sometimes she thinks I'm crazy. Once in a while, it will inspire a duet.
Catchy tunes can do this. Perhaps it's something from when you last watched the movie is coming back to you for consultation.
@Shiprex Well, I've always thought that Didi Conn's role in the movie doesn't get the recognition it deserves, and she's the main character in the song.
An injustice you're now able to do something about
Probably. As we age we often forget recent events but stuff from years ago comes flooding back like it's yesterday. Don't be surprised if you find yourself waking up thinking it's time for school. I wouldn't worry too much though, many people who lost their marbles years ago hold jobs as politicians, judges, etc.
The former MLB relief pitcher Terry Forster was a portly fellow, so once on (I think) The Johnny Carson Show, when asked about his weight, Forster, now 74, said,"A waist is a terrible thing to mind!!!"
If your asking this question you just may be losing it.
@douride2 Maybe I've already lost it. Any hints on how/where to find it? 😏
Did you check in the closet?
How long has it been?
I had that for 2 months two summers ago… singing a song from the carpenters… every shalala… all summer… drove my kids n myself n hubby nuts!!
@midnightmoon05 ... every wo oh wo oh, still shines... all the oldies but goodies... every shingaling a ling...
Thanks, now that's in my head. 😎
I like that song!
If you watched the movie a few months ago it's still fresh in your memory. Totally normal.
I don't even remember the song.
I get this sometimes. It is usually an annoying commercial that gets stuck in my head.
You're exactly right Tom something triggered it a smell something I would say it's more of a positive than a negative you were in a Zone I bet you had a good day after that
That's an interesting ear worm you've hatched... be a shame if it metamorphised into "God Only Knows" by the Beach Boys or something
@AviatorTom No, fortunately you are not losing your mind. I do have the same thing happen and have no explanation for it.
When you start asking questions like this, there is a good chance you have.
You’re not losing your mind. Just feeling nostalgic.
Probably just intrusive thoughts, nothing extremely "crazy".
Sometimes this sort of thing happens, particularly with musical material. I wouldn't worry about it. It will pass.
You know what they say, "you're ok until you start whistling show tunes."
Kinda like a broken record huh?
@AviatorTom Nah, it’s perfectly normal
@_Jenny_
Is there a reason why I am not receiving your questions lately?
I was getting them all and now none.
I think that GaG has messed with my account because about 8 people who I used to get opinions and questions from I'm not getting them either. Are you following me still?
I had another member say that he stopped getting my questions after 5 years!
But there are all of these new people I don't know who are on my feed everyday all of a sudden.
GaG has messed with my account! Grrrrrr 😖
@sage2021 yes, I’m following you but I haven’t posted any questions for a few days
I think that's normal
