Depending on how clear the day is, I feel like I can tell the difference between the astronomical twilight, the nautical twilight, and the civil twilight that comes right before the dawn. I love waking up at those times when my body has been so satisfied by the kind of nighttime activities I love and then a good satisfied sleep. I feel like more of that goodness will come in the following morning.
By the way, those phases start when the center of the sun is 18 degrees, 12 degrees, and 6 degrees below the horizon, and then sunrise is when the top edge reaches the horizon. Plus on a clear day there is some refraction. So it feels a little like the phases are accelerating.
Dawn: Transitions from deep blue/purple to bright orange or yellow, becoming steadily brighter as the sun approaches and crosses the horizon.
Dusk: Transitions from bright gold or orange down into deep indigo, navy, and darkness as the sun sinks deeper below the horizon.
There are distinct visual and environmental cues.
But I tend to analyze color palettes in everything I see.
Yeah, I have a good sense of direction. And I’d likely be aware of North South East West. And if the sun is rising or setting. This is not a tough problem to solve.
"Dawn specifically refers to the period of civil twilight in the morning, leading up to sunrise.
Twilight encompasses both dawn and dusk, marking the transition between day and night.
In summary, while both twilight and dawn involve periods of ĺight, dawn is a specific part of the broader twilight phase that occurs in the morning."
You mean between dusk and dawn? The rule of thumb is that at dusk you still have a temperature close to that during the day, at dawn it's usually colder.
Not really. Most of the answers here rely on passage of time or time of day or direction... which is totes cheating. As a single image they are strikingly similar.
Yes, I can. Amazingly enough, the sun seems to come up in different places.
