Can you tell the time?

I recently heard how there's a generation of kids who can't tell the time on a 'proper' analogue clock and can only use digital ones such as on their phones.

I believe adults should be able to tell the time but my time here on GAG has diminished my faith in human ability. So can you tell the time?

I can tell the time on an analogue clock

I can even do it with roman numerals

Numberless clocks hold no fear

Turning the sundial last week was hard

I use the stars

I need a digital clock

Belonging to a pre-digital era, I learned to read a clock, read roman figures, calculate without calculator, etc. A kid would add: "wow, the generation before Windows 95, the prehistory!!!". Well even from before that period: no one knew about computers ;0)

I was the technology director for a K-12 school district. I did a 3 million dollar technology upgrade that included the old intercom which was tied to the analog clocks. I replaced it with a system that used digital clocks. I got complaints from the elementary schools that the kids could not learn how to tell time. Some teachers actually fished the old clocks out of the dumpster and plugged them into an electrical outlet.

The new generation doesn’t know how to tell time. I can how to tell time the standard English way and the East African way. For example, 3 PM would be would be 9 PM. It’s kinda hard to explain but it makes sense.

I practised quite a lot to be able to read IT. However, I do have problems when there are fewer numbers like in the Roman numeral or there are only lines.

I remember seeing a watch I thought was super cool that was truly digital with it being in binary rather than 7 segment display. It was just dots in spaces that required a knowledge or how to read 0 and 1 as digits to convert into 24 hour or 12 hour format. The 24 hour watches I've seen I think are also neat.

Never learned to tell time by the stars. Nor used a sun dial. But bring on the rest of the clocks.
One of the medical tests us old people have to do. Is to draw hands on a clock at a certain time. Guess that they will need to change their test soon!

Well what a coincidence, a young person at work asked me the time, I looked at my analogue watch, they said "wow what's that?" then they got out their phone and showed me an app that was an analogue watch. They then said "I didn't think they existed in real life!!!,,,

Yes , I can tell time using an analogue clock. I have some teacher friends that tell me that many high school kids cannot tell the time unless it is a digital clock.

Yes I heard that too and they don't teach writing in curses anymore. Well as far as time as long as the world doesn't end hopefully it will. And then the kids or these generations will be able to tell time

Any of the first three and of course the last one. Sundial and stars would be a bit of a challenge.

Okay I can do all but stars and sundial lol. I’m sure sundial wouldn’t be too difficult. I use military time for work regularly.

Yes , I’m from a generation that had no numbers to tell us , only with the hands on the clock especially in the classroom, I also had to use rotary phones for quite some time

Usually I just project my coom jar into the Orgasmosphere and the sound coming back tells the time.
