I think a common one in my family is "if you weren't there when I was alive, don't be there when I'm dead" I think it's a common thing in many lives that people aren't there while you are living but when you die they are at your funeral, seems like a fake or empty gesture that really serves no point.

I live by the code to always be grateful, to always cherish the little things, there are always people that are struggling so much more than what people realize, I will never and have never been a complainer because I believe that everything is something to be grateful for and that includes hardships.

Don't quite see it that way. You might go to support a friend. Most recently I went to the funeral of a person that caused me quite a bit of trouble but I kinda liked her anyway. She died unexpectedly and It just seemed right to go.
