What is the just-world fallacy, and why do people believe in it?

It's the belief that the world is fair, that people get what they deserve. Of course, neither of those are true, at least not in all cases.

Why do people believe in it? Because they don't know how to think clearly or objectively. They ignore that there is another side or angle to a given story. They're so conceited in what they believe about politics, culture, religion and such that they can't, or rather in many instances don't want to see that people they might not like or people they disagree with are individuals who suffer and have emotions. Whom they voted for is the main factor in what determines their value as a person.

In short, it eliminates the responsibility they have to one another.

Very interesting perspective. I also think another reason people believe in it because have to face the reality that we don't have control over a lot of things in our lives is a terrifying concept that many people wouldn't want to accept
