Some girls DO through punches, but the answer is that masculine boys learn to fight as part of growing up, in theory if not in reality. Boys are expected to fight, wrestle, defend, and protect, and even our sports tend to reflect that. Girls aren't encouraged (and often actively discouraged) to do these activities. So, if a time comes when they fight, they are usually ill-equipped and devolve to what they DO know, which is slapping and pulling and scratching.
As the teach you in sports, martial arts, or military-style training, when in danger, you don't "rise to the occasion", but rather you "drop to your level of training." If you've had little to no training, or poor training, your performance will be poor when it counts. This is why you train and practice, and why such training is made to be as hard as possible. "The more you sweat in training, the less you bleed in combat."
Well where do you see the most fights? On movies and TV? And/or in real life between people who got their fighting ideas FROM movies and TV?
I think it has to do with what's portrayed as "masculine" and "feminine." You don't see girls throwing punches because they probably think they're not strong enough to do any real damage that way, or that they'll hurt themselves in the process. Or maybe they're not actually trying to do any real damage, unlike macho guys who might gauge who "won" by how much blood was drawn and don't want to appear "girly" by pulling hair and slapping :P
Most girls don't have any fighting experience and wouldn't punch with the first two knuckles or hold their wrist straight and would hurt themselves more than the other girl. Hair is an easy target and nails are effective. The door knocking thing is called a hammer fist and is usually pretty effective. Girls just do it subconsciously.
lol I always wondered that also, I think they just don't know how to fight.
i mean if you're so mad at someone you want to fight them then why would you just pull their hair and slap, don't you want to really hurt them ?

its more efficient I guess. a girl obviously won't be able to generate the same force as a guy would using a normal punch. so I think girls can inflict maximum damage by scratching and sh*t. but also I think guy fighting is about power and dominance, chick fighting is about f***ing that bitch up, almost humiliating her

Some girls are beasts at fighting.not necassirly the ugly girls. Or fat girls...if youve never fought before and never seen a fight that's what usually happens slapping and pulling hair
