There's nothing wrong with being random. It might be the things you're saying that are making them look at you funny though. If you say something like "We beat ourselves" when really, the other team beat you, you're going to look like a jackass but if you say something like "so, you know, today is "9/11" we really should pay our respects to it. There's nothing wrong with being random as long as it's correct!

My daughter who is 13 does just this and I find it highly irritating because she hasn't retained a thing anyone else has said. Further to that, it just demonstrates (atleast in her case) that she doesn't THINK before she SPEAKS!
In my experience, it shows that that person was not listening to the conversation. The best way to stop it is by being an active listener.

I say, don't stop it and start observing and researching your random thoughts. After all, random thoughts are very powerful, if you have a good understanding with it.
