What does it mean when NOBODY remembers my birthday?

I've grown up in the same crowd of people since I was 5 years old, and since then, I've shared a birthday week with three of my friends. For the past couple of years though, I've been struggling to be noticed, and last year nobody seemed to remember my birthday! know it's not all about me and I probably sound like a stuck up snot ball by even asking this, but should I be worried that nobody even noticed or recognized that it was my birthday? My birthday has come around again, and I'm bracing myself for another forgotten year. Are my feelings of sadness justified?

Your feelings are justified. I'm going on 33 in February and my closest friends never remember and I've known them 15+ years. The thing is that I remember all of theirs even the people I've lost contact with. That said, I never allowed anyone to make any kind of fuss about my birthday, ever. I don't know if this is the reason nobody remembers or if people are so self absorbed they really don't care about anyone else's Birthday's. Mind you I'm a straight man, but even I know it's foul to ignore a friends Birthday let alone forget it entirely. So I ask you. Have you been attentive to all your friends respective Birthday's? If so I'm sorry you're feeling left out. But some times people just don't know how to say Happy Birthday or give any good wishes of any kind thanks to the way they were raised. So to summarize, yes you're justified, in my opinion at least. But please do not let it define you! A lot of people have a great deal going on in their lives and could simply blank significant days.. even though they shouldn't. And lastly, for what it's worth. Happy Birthday to you for all your past present and future Birthday's. From one stranger to another.

However, there are various things to be addressed here:

1. FIRST - YES you are justified about the sadness part

2. There surely is something more to it than meets the eye. Can you let us know what do all your other friends do on each others' birthdays viz-a-viz what you do on your birthday with your friends

We used to all celebrate together and have a little gathering. One year we went to the movies, and one year we went bowling. But last year, the first girl that I mentioned planned something to do, didn't invite me and it was on my birthday so I was left alone. I thought, hey, that's okay, I'll see them tomorrow. But apparently that meant nothing to the. I know that I'm getting older, and birthdays shouldn't mean squat. I really don't know why it bugs me so much. and yes it is th 6th of November.

Don't feel sad hun,I swear I've been through what your talking about,specially since I tend to have such an excellent memory when it comes birthdays,so the fact that barely any of all those I used to wait til 12am to wish them a happy birthday ever remembered mine used to really put me down on my special day,but what I've learned from all this is not to wish them a happy birthday,if they cared enough they would have remembered...

Not all people are that caring,but don't let it put you down,ull find friends who will remember every little detail that has got to do with u,dats wen you will know your home...

this sounds sad. you're 18 and up and its been going on like this for forever? something is wrong here. it's either the people around you are insensitive jerks or they just don't care. you need to have new company. clearly, you are not given importance here and it is hurting you. well id get hurt too if no one remembers my birthday. nothing to be stuck up about - Birthdays are very special to me also. and let me guess, you remember everyone elses.. Well, speaking from experience, I make an announcement to all my friends of the day and that we should all get together for a quick drink or 2 or 5...And whoever does not show up or call...well then I just forget about them and find ones that do care.

If friends are toooo busy to take an hour or 2 once a year to appreciate you, then I really do not consider them true friends. And I do not have time for acquaintances any more.. There loss!

And BTW...Treat yourself out, don't wait for anyone else.

Yes you should be worried. I don't think it is right that your firends don't remember your birthday but you remember theirs. I just hope you are not buying them expensive gifts. I don't think it is fair or right. Your friends should at least take you out on your birthday and get yo ua gift if you are doing it for theirs. Do they even know what day your B-day is?

They should know when my birthday is. We've grown up together. One of my friends birthday is on the 4, mine on the 6th, my other friends on the 10 and another friend on the 12.

True they should know, but have they ever gotten you anything for your birthday? If not then they are some really messed up and cheap friends. So I'm assuming your B-day is next month. Happy early birthday. If you don't bring it up some kind of way or put empasis on how important it is then they will not remember. If they are Facebook friends the nthey should know. Facebook even posts and reminds people.

I am feeling extremely sad lately. I've realized that the people I love and care forget about me. Its my bday and nobody even cared to greet me. It sounds like a narc and immature to think like that. But I know they don't have any agendas today. I even reconfirm it and they are all free. Even so, they never bothered asking me or evwn sent me stickers. I've come to notice, I the one always asking about how they and whay they do by reading our messages previois messages. And its making sense to me now, how they never greeted me unless I intiate about my bday. It kinda hit me that Mmybe I am just forcing myself to people who don't really want me

The simple answer is "no" unless you are part of a group that is effusive about everyone else's birthday BUT yours. If that is the case, it may be time for new friends. But when you reach my age, not only will everybody but your SO and immediate family forget them but, in the end, you may even forget your own if you are busy.
