Black Facebook profile picture meaning?

Ok there is this girl (we are both 18) I talk to on Facebook and in class from time to time and I like her a bit. So, a week ago I thought she was mad at me about something but when I asked on chat her she said she had some problems. So on Monday she changed her profile picture to a black square (completely black). Then she wasn't on FB the whole week.
And today her FB profile pic is still black. So today I was curious and saw that her twin sister's profile picture was also black and I'm sure it wasn't black before. And it's not like they are insecure or anything. They both played in a movie .So does the black Facebook picture mean that somebody died in their family? If not what does black Facebook profile picture mean?

I would say that, from experience at least, people generally put their profile pic as black to show that they're depressed in some way, and/or just don't want to be bothered at that time. It's basically a way to say without saying that they don't want any attention. Or it could be the opposite, that they DO want attention, but they're afraid to say that they do. It could be any reason really. But it's more often than not that they've been hit with a bout of depression, be it circumstantial (such as mourning a loss, personal problems, etc) or clinical. A black profile pic means they probably want consolation from only their closest friends or people they care about.

That's what I get from it anyway.

Yes, Blacking ur pic when there's a death near to you is a thing. I do this as do many people I know.

I find that with this 'Black box' She and her sibling are Symbolizing their feelings of the issues they cannot discuss, Not even on Facebook.

When Facebook users change their profile pictures to all black, it usually means they are in a period of mourning. The black profile picture can also be a sign of support for a cause or protest. For example, in the wake of George Floyd’s death, many people changed their profile pictures to black to show solidarity with the Black Lives Matter movement.

Is this recent? Did you notice it on any other female's fb pages? Did you miss her? Did you communicate on that day? I'm glad you noticed the pic blacked out. Did you let her know your concern? Let her know you noticed the missing pic. Ask her what it was about.
