Why won't my belly button heal? it's been 9 months

I got my belly button pierced on May 5th, 2012 I've been told it takes 8 months to a year for this piercing to heal. I've taken very good care of it, never touch it, always clean it but it's still disgusting, it bleeds all the time, there's yellow pus on the top and bottom, every morning I wake up the whole bottom ball is covered in crust.. its disgusting. I'm tired of it at this point and want to take it out but I don't want it to close and there be an infestation closed inside, I don't understand, I use sea salt spray on it. Why won't it heal?!?

As a chick with a few surface piercings here's my thoughts on this

After 3 days from being pierced you shouldn't be using the sea salt spray because it will dry out your skin and cause irritation/hinder recovery. It's normal to still get scabbing, but there shouldn't be pus. Normally you would gently pick the scabs off, apply a non fragrant lotion twice a day and leave it alone. About a month out scabbing should pretty much be done, but it's recommended that you don't tamper with it as your body is still likely to reject, or close the holes completely shortly after removal.

After 9 months you shouldn't still be having these issues. You can go one last limb and try switching your piercing out to something ceramic (incase you're allergic to metal, hence always having an infection), but chances are your body is just saying no to this particular area.

For me, I can't pierce my ears. No matter what metal I put in, how much I clean it my ears always swell and pus. I've tried 3 times.

Yet the surface piercings on my sternum are just fine. Heck I can't even tell you how many times I have caught them on things or bumped them and they've never rejected, or swelled up after the initial week of getting pierced. My body is just more forgiving in this location I guess.

Ultimately the bar you have in needs to come out. Whether you switch it out or not is your call but what you have will not heal at this point. Do not bother getting antibiotics unless an infection persists after removal of the piercing. As long as you have something that is stressing your body you will have an infection, no meds can cover up that. You can always try getting it repierced later after you heal and hope for better success. Sorry this one didn't work out :(

I ended up just taking it out, it's not worth it honestly. I'm pretty sure it's just not right for my body.. my body is pretty much sensitive to everything. Thank you for taking the time out to respond to my question. I appreciate it (:

go to the doctor. NOW. Pus is a sign of infection, and if it hasn't healed by now, it means it's pretty bad..

you could get sceptacemia (blood poisoning) and then you'd be properly screwed.

This is not good. You need to see a doctor for some antibiotics, you have an infection.

Whoever pierced it, should have told you back then = Pus is bad. It's a sign of infection.

You need to see a doctor. You could die of sepsis.

It would be best if you visit your nearest clinic or hospital to clean any infections that might be causing it not to heal quickly.

My girlfriend had one for over a year and it would not heal. She removed it and then it healed. Some can adapt and some cannot. Get rid of it.

I ended up taking mine out too and now it looks like it's finally healing.

another reason why I hate piercings and tattoos...your body was not evolved to be punctured through. I think natural beauty is best.
