People tell me I have a dark streak... meaning?

I've had people tell me that I come across as a nice girl who is kind and smiles to everyone, but that I also have a dark streak or 'a dark soul'. Confused about the meaning... should I be offended? I'm not emo or goth, btw.

Don't be offended. If they said your kindness was fake, then you should be offended. By saying dark streak they accept that your kindness is genuine. But sometimes your actions scare them. It means that they believe you are capable of monumental things and don't know whether those things will be good or bad. When you hear this, simply take care that your dark streak drives you to things you'll be proud of. I have a dark streak myself, as probably does everyone. I'm proud of my dark streak, but I keep it hidden so well few have even seen it.

Could mean that they think you have a part of you that isn't as nice as the rest of you. I think most people have that, a so-called "dark side". I don't think it's particularly offensive, it just is. Kinda odd for them to comment on it though.
