Anyone else don't want kids?

Question

Is there anyone else on this site that does not have kids and does not want kids? I don't mean don't want kids in the near future; I mean you don't want kids ever. Seems like the "norm" is to grow up, get married, start popping out babies- not necessarily in that order. I've of course faced a lot of "oh you're too young, wait til you're older" or "you'll change your mind" or whatever other inconsiderate and ignorant comments. I have also been told that it's selfish which to me makes no sense- I am not REQUIRED to have kids. I also love when people say that they want children to help take care of them when they grow old- that seems pretty dang selfish to me. Without kids, I'll have plenty of money to hire people to take care of me if I need.

I do absolutely love SOME kids. I will be honest and say that I don't like all kids. The idea of having my own though does not interest me at all though. It actually really turns me off. If I could have surgery tomorrow to ensure that I never have kids, I would. My fiancé (who is older than me) feels the same.

Just curious who else feels the same, how old are you, do you have a partner who feels the same? How did/will your family react? What are some of your experiences?

I'm not sold on the idea of kids, primarily because the three-or-so-year period in which you go through pregnancy, childbirth, and then chronic sleep deprivation as you raise an infant sounds like a living hell to me. On top of that, I also have a personal history of depression, so I know my odds of postpartum depression if I did have a child are higher than average - I'd really rather not go through that again.

I'm currently 23 and a graduate student, which touches on another reason why I'm not sold on kids - because I don't forsee a time when I'll have enough free time to take care of any. I grew up with a stay-at-home mom who was very invested in getting me a good education and giving me lots of opportunities to grow while at home, and I'd hate to have kids and not be able to give them the same attention and care because I was working.

Also, kids are expensive, they take a hell of a lot of work to raise, they destroy things, and they cut down on the amount of personal/private time you have significantly.

I know my long-term boyfriend wants kids someday, and my mom occasionally will talk about "when you want to bring grandkids home to visit in the future". I've talked at length with my boyfriend about this, and he seems more or less okay about maybe not having kids (which is kind of a shame, because he loves kids and I know would be a wonderful father). I have not talked with my family about my feelings, in part because I'm not sure whether I'll ever want kids or not.

I don't want kids ever either. As a kid, I never played with baby dolls. They were just stuffed animals or barbies. There's a picture I found when I was little of me holding a baby doll by it's leg. LOL the look on my face is like, "I don't want this."

I was talking about this to my mom when I was 9 and she said, "When you meet someone you love, you will change your mind." Well I'll be 30 in a couple of weeks and I found the one I love and want to spend the rest of my life with and I still don't want kids. My boyfriend doesn't want kids either. I told my little sister this and she's pissed off. She's like, "Well what's the point in getting married then?" And "I'm not gonna have my kids be around you."

I like some kids. Mostly babies. I just don't want any of my own. They're too expensive and sometimes they tend to piss me off with their crying. When I hear a kid screaming at their mom because she won't let him have something, I feel bad for the kid. Like I just want to buy it for them.

I think I'll make a good aunt though.

I don't think I have a biological clock at all.

I'm 22 and I'm right with you! I have been told or heard all those lane rationalizations. Parenting is the hardest job, and it's not for me, at least I'm 90% sure I won't adopt and 100% I won't have biological kids.

I want my tubes tied by at least 27 (guts get pain after vasectomies so I wouldn't ask someone to do that). Maybe I'll adopt if I get the itch for it, but it's not likely. I would prefer a dog. And pregnancy/childbirth/birth defects scare me so much. I would like a life partner, but marriage is scary too (I'll be working hard and making a good salary so I don't want to lose money from a messy divorce or make the guy feel "trapped" with me).

I never had the urge or want to have a child or be pregnant. I knew from age 8 that I didn't and it still hasn't changed. Kids aren't for everyone and I hate when people play the age card saying "you will change your mind" I like my body, I like my freedom, I like my sleep and I like doing as I please when I please. With having a child you can't do that. I am fine with never being a mother and I plan on keeping it that way. I am 21 years old and my boyfriend wants kids and wants to be a dad. I told him about me getting my tubes tied. He supports my decision and will be there in the process. He flip flops about wanting/ not wanting kids.

The problem is, too many low quality people breed like rabbits, while it seems intelligent, attractive ones aren't wanting kids. Thus this country goes down the tubes as only the stupid breed.

every person 18+ should have at least 6 kids to their name (12 if they work full time).

I don't want kids right now and I don't see myself ever wanting any. I don't mind kids but only for limited periods of time, and I don't like babies at all. It really irritates me that so many people try to convince me (and women in general) that they have to have kids. We have enough people in the world right now. It's not necessary for every woman to have children.

Now, if I had a partner who really wanted kids, I might not be opposed to adopting an older child. Older children are less likely to be adopted than babies, and I always told myself that if I ever did end up wanting children I would do that instead. That idea appeals to me much more than having my own kids.

I definitely want to have children someday, but my best friend doesn't. Part of the reason is she wants to be able to travel all her life. And part of the reason is she doesn't think she'll ever want sex haha. :P She's thinking about adopting someday, but we'll see.

yes, 18, no he wants kids, my family said they expected that ever since I was younger, and everyone says I will change my mind or make a great mom but I will kill my kids I think

I have never wanted kids, and I know other people who are the same. It's unusual but not that rare. Once I hit 30, people pretty much started believing me when I said it haha.

I saw a girl on the show "baggage" last night, who doesn't ever want kids. I've seen not wanting kids, and wanting kids, go in spurts though. For a while I wanted kids, but now I don't think I do. I think maybe it'll change as I get older (I'm going to be 24 a month from yesterday)

You will change your mind. You are still young. That biological clock will start ticking and you will feel a strong urge to try and reproduce. It is natural.
