Is the awkward silence a bad thing with this girl?

So I haven't really hung out with this girl I only see her two days a week at college and she talks to me more than anyone in the class girls included and always sits by me. After class we walk with each other and talk but there always ends up being that awkward silence. I will try and spark up another conversation and she does comment but I don't if we just are both bad at conversing or of she not interested. She doesn't try and avoid me though or anything. Like that so I don't think I'm creeping her out.

I just think she might be shy try and ask for her number Say oh hey by the way can I get your number we never really get to talk just twice a week. This sounds like me a lot im a very shy person when im around a guy and there tends to be that awkward silence because I don't want to sound stupid. But I think you have a chance she is shy and might need you to give her a little push.

I hate awkward silences too but sometimes you just can't help it. Just keep talking to her, if you hit a wall ask her something about herself to get the conversation going. But don't interrogate her either. Share something about yourself and ask her, that usually results in a steady conversation and you get to learn things about each other.

even if she likes you and you're hanging out, awkward silence is usually a kiss of death in my experience.
