He told his mom about me

We were on a date and his mom called about some errand he forgot to run, and he replied that he can't do it 'cause he's with me. Not "I'm with a girl" or "friend." He said my name.

I say it's a good sign, but I'm not trying to get too excited or worked up.

Well its a not really a definite sign that he talks about you to his parents, it is a sign that he would want you around for a while. Saying your name to his parents shows a few things; it shows that he thinks of you as more than just a friend or just some girl, it puts the point in his parents' minds that it is a name they may be hearing again or often, and by saying it in front of you it shows that he isn't scared of you knowing this.

I just realized something, when you're saying you two were on a date you mean that this isn't your first date don't you? That being the case then that changes things. His saying your name means that he has talked about you with his parents which most probably means he at least really likes you.

To address your question, I believe the openness of parents knowledge directly correlates with how often you have contact with them. Like me, I only talk to my parents once a week and thus I would only tell them if it is a serious girlfriend, but while I was living at home I told them about every date I was going on (who it was and if I liked them, not what happened on the date. That may have scarred them lol). I feel that is a pretty common situation that arises.

My mom would know the name of a girl I liked and no more than that lol. However she would not know the name of a girl I only wanted for physical reasons. So it's def. good thing :D
