What should a fat girl wear to the gym?

So my friend (who is on the bigger side) and I went to our school's gym this morning to exercise before class. She had never been there before so I took her with me to show her around and help her exercise. She asked me what to wear and I told her that I usually just wear yoga pants and a t-shirt so we both went to the gym dressed like that.

It was fine at first but then some girls walked by and said (not very loudly but definitely loud enough that we could hear it), "that fat chick shouldn't be wearing those pants." I mean, under normal circumstances they'd be right but she changed into jeans after we left the gym so I don't see the problem with bigger people wearing yoga pants to the gym. At least they're going, right? What else is there to wear?

I'm bigger and I wear yoga pants and a nice athletic top to the gym. Those girls are idiots. Who says that to someone who is trying to improve themselves? Obviously those girls are not at the gym for the right reasons if they are judging your friend for what she wears. I've never been hassled at the gym, or told to cover up or wear baggy clothes. And I go to the back of the gym where all the body builders go. No one has EVER hassled me.

Yoga pants and a t-shirt are perfectly acceptable things to wear to a gym. I hope this doesn't discourage your friend from going to the gym if she really wants to get healthy, and be more fit. The gym should be a positive environment where people support each other in attaining their goals and not knock them down because they aren't perfect.

Well I go to a gym full of old people so I don't feel so self concious. But I wear tight yoga pants and a baggy tshirt. I don't wanna jog with baggy pants on and cause chafing, but I want to be free up top. And I don't change I just own it. And yes I am big like size 24 big. Personally I would have told those girls off, but that's just me. I agree at least they are going to the gym and should wear whatever they want. Go both of you and boo to the fat haters, they are just jealous because they know she will be prettier than them once she shapes up, and tell your friend I said that.

My friend and I go to the gym too. She's on the heavier side as well. She wears baggier pants. I don't know how to describe them. They aren't thick sweatpants, but they're not as form fitting as the yoga pants.

Not that anyone else's opinion should affect your friend, but maybe she should look into those if she isn't comfortable in yoga pants?
