1) Keep yourself active when your drinking, socializing, dancing, whatever it may be. The more I sit down / take it easy, the easier it is for me to grow bored of any specific activity. Don't take too many risky steps when your intoxicated, you WILL regret it somewhere sometime.
2) Try a different form of alcohol, for example, I can drink beer and wine just fine but if I drink hard A I will be wanting to sleep within an hour. I don't care to get scientific today so give it a shot and see if it works for you too. (This does not mean supplementing your desire for one with another, it's about substitution. E.g. Replacing your desire for hard-a with a desire for wine instead)
3) I've noticed that lifestyle has a tremendous impact in the style of drinker. I used to drink for a good time, but now I drink a beer as a reward for a hard work week. Once you realize the difference here you'll change your drinking habit subconsciously to the style you want to be at. And yea, I love the feeling of drinking too but in moderation. Getting sloshed just to wake up the next day going "wow what a crazy night" are days that have been left in my past for a reason, there are new priorities and ways I can venture that lead to twice the fun all while being sober.
Do yourself a favor, take it from someone who almost lost their life like an adolescent dumbass (me) when I chose to drink and drive. Do not waste your life for a mere night of pleasure, call a taxi or a friend, even a family member if they are close to get you before you get behind the wheel. Walk if you have to, but setup this plan ahead of time so that when you're intoxicated you don't make the wrong choice. Enjoy man, just don't let it get the best of ya.

Different classes of alcohol affect each person differently.
Beer tends to make me lull and sleepy if I drink a sizeable amount, but for some reason hard liquor in the same amount energizes me in a social setting. 8-)
One thing that you can do (if you can still find it on the store shelves) is to get a pack of energy gum (AMP, Wrigley's, Rockstar, etc.) and chew it. That stuff really works, trust me!
If you can't find the energy gum, you can get the little tiny squirt bottles of Mio Energy and drop a few drops into your shot or beer before you drink it (and the Mio Energy does have a good flavor). I've done this before and it definitely keeps me amp'd up. 8-)
If I drink spirits, like vodka or gin, I tend to fall asleep half way through the bottle. So I started changing my usual drinks until I found one that doesn't have me counting sheep. Personally I find that cider doesn't make me feel sleepy, I also don't get really bad hangovers with it, so that's a plus!
Oh! Avoid shots! I know they're brilliant fun, but they have a huge impact on making you sleepy, unless your not on some form of drug, taking shots will make you more drowsy. Also if you do start to feel sleepy, go outside for a couple of minutes, the fresh air will remove some of the fogginess from your brain.

It's the atmosphere that affects what mood you end up in when you get drunk. If you're rushing then you'll obv be drinking at parties with loud music, lots of people to socialize with (and girls to flirt with!), dancing, etc. This itself should keep you from getting sleepy and instead pump you up...at least that's how it works for me haha. If I drank with just a couple friends in someone's apt or something then I would get sleepy more easily.
Alcohol is a depressant which means you will get sleepy no matter what.
Drinking it with a stimulant like drugs or an energy drink- bad idea.
Your only choices are do just drink and deal with it.
Or just bring your non alcoholic drink of choice. No one has to know you aren't drinking. Pour your energy drink into a red cup and go have fun.

You need to gauge out your tolerance over time by drinking consistently
Obviously eat a sh*t load so your body slows absorbtion and you can puke, just make sure no one is looking.
Always drink liquor before beer and count your drinks. Should be 2 long islands or 5 beers per hour max, to keep the level high but not sleepy.
Preferably, try not to drink beer, beer makes you woozy and calm.
You're gonna get an addiction though.the two things that effect me are what I'm drinking and what I'm doing. so I've noticed liquor like tequila and vodka gets me sleepy after a few shots/drinks, but beer won't as much. but also what you are doing obviously has a huge impact. if I'm at a party or just with a bunch of other people who are getting drunk and we are having a crazy fun time, I'm not going to get sleepy; if I'm with just a few people and we're just 'chilling', sitting around talking, watching movies, then that will make me want to fall asleep after two shots lol. so yeah if you are asking in the context of a frat then you are pretty much always going to be drinking in a crazy atmosphere I'm assuming, and you shouldn't really have a problem.
This may not be the answer for you but it makes a huge difference for me. I have a prescription to Adderall. If I take an Adderall I can drink all night without getting drowsy. Being in college the medication would also help you in your non-party hours to concentrate on your schoolwork. You may have to try more than one doctor to get a prescription. You just tell them you are having trouble concentrating and staying awake in class and you are interested in trying Adderall or a similar medication. Just don't go overboard when taking it with alcohol. Half of a 20mg tablet has always been fine for me. And don't get caught giving any to your friends because it is scheduled and only legal to possess if you have a prescription.
No, don't mix energy drinks with alcohol. The buzz is knarly and it's just a dumb thing to do. Downer with an upper? Ya, not a nice feeling after that buzz kicks off. And since you have to ask about alcohol, you defenitly shouldn't be expiramenting with energy drinks mixed with your alcohol. Being the dude at your fraternity who acts all ADHD after the energy drink / booze one minute and then puking everywhere the other minute is not going to be a good look for you. Proceed with caution.
