What's the difference between going steady and being bf/gf?

Been dating this guy since December then starting around feb/March we started seeing each other everyday, having sleepovers everyday nd we both know we are not seeing anyone but each other but then when I requested him on fb as being in a relationship he didn't want to change his status and when I asked him what we were he said we are going steady and I'm not his girlfriend...I just don't understand the difference :/

Going steady means to be in an exclusive relationship with someone. A term that originated from the 1950's. But in your case. I asssume he is taking things slow when he didn't change his status he perhaps did not want to make it "official" yet.

I think going steady is being girlfriend and boyfriend without DTR. I think he just doesn't wan to commit.
