Do Girls Need More Privacy then Boys?

A high school near me has an annual tradition that at the end of the year the senior boys run through the school in nothing more then their boxers or briefs while the 14-18 year old girls stay clothed, laugh, giggle and watch. I have pasted two videos from this years run below where you can see the boys running, while the girls not only laugh as the boys run in their boxers/briefs, but at the end they throw water on the guys and use squirt guns on them.

All of this is supported by administrators and parents and it happens every year. In addition I know of several other schools where this type of thing occurs. But I could NEVER imagine parents or administrators allowing the opposite...with the girls running in their underwear while the boys watched, laughed and threw water on the girls.

Why is it considered acceptable and fun for 17-18 year old boys to strip to only their boxers/briefs and run around while 14-18 year old girls stay clothed and laugh and giggle and throw water on the boys?

We all know the opposite would never be allowed. It's okay for the girls to see the boys in their underwear, but the reverse would never be seen as acceptable. Why? Do girls need more privacy? Do we not care as much about protecting boys?

That's a very good question. I do think in general girls, especially teen girls, need more privacy with their bodies. They are going through more and there is more pressure on them. In addition girls are typically seen as more of a 'sex symbol', whereas guys are not. So a girl in underwear would be seen as sexy by guys, whereas guys in underwear are typically seen as funny or comical to girls.

After quickly scanning through the videos, it looks like it's pretty fun for everyone involved. Yes it obvious to the girls that the guys are in boxers, but that's what makes it fun for everyone. If it was the reverse, with the girls running, it would be seen more as sexy then comical.

I know it may seem 'unfair' the girls get to see the guys in just underwear, whereas the guys will never see the girls, but I think if I were a parent of both a son and daughter, I will admit...I think I would be okay with my son running for something like this and would be okay with my daughter watching...but I really think I would definitely not feel okay with my daughter stripping down while guys watched.

It's just interesting how it' fine for the boys to strip in front of the girls and have water thrown on them...but the reverse would never be allowed.

Today we seem to dwell on and over-think these sorts of things and try desperately to find offense in them. xzinax2's respone below is an example of what I'm talking about. I suspect if she had her way there would be no fun at all in schools or anywhere else.

But may I ask, if it was just the girls running in underwear while the boys watched and shot them with water guns...would it still be okay to you? Or is it okay only because the boys were in their boxers and many seem to feel they need less privacy then the girls.

No, I would not feel OK about that. Boys and girls are different. When we try to make them the same, or try to ensure they are treated exactly the same, we ALL lose.

This tradition looks like a fun one, but unfortunately it will no doubt go the way of dodge ball and so many other traditions and activities that have been banned due to political correctness. Someone gets their feelings hurt and everyone pays the price for it.

So you agree that it is okay and a fun tradition when the boys strip down to their boxers or briefs and the girls are the ones watching...but it would be inappropriate for the girls to strip down correct? I agree with politically correct being a problem, some people would look at this and say it's unfair for the girls to watch the boys run in just their underwear,but that's ridiculous to say. girls and boys need equal amounts of privacy for everything, but it depends on the people. But there is a double standard because girls are seen more sexual plus some are underage.. and men/women can handle seeing half naked women in places other than the beach plus there are many pedos out there and guys think its funny when its really not because as you said 17-18 some were underage i really think no one should be running around mostly naked in a school. But I don't know why they do that thats kinda gross, plus thats only my opinion.

Where I go to school, we have a quarterly 'undie run'. There are plenty of 17+ guys and girls running around half naked. A lot of the other schools I know of have something similar. Some people watch, and some participate. No one makes a big deal about it. It's in college though, not high school.

Because we girls are taught to cover up. Just look at the difference between male and female toilets. Men can hold a conversation while standing alongside each other as they go for a piss but we must lock ourselves away.

Because if 14-18 year old girls were to run through a school half nude every parent in a 25 mile radius would faint at the "objectification" and "victimization" of them being shamefully forced to expose their bodies to men. Also, any male above 13 that witnessed the thing would be arrested and become sex offenders.

I didn't really care when 2 of my female friends walked in on me when I was changing my clothes, but when I accidentally see them, that's another story. One girl that saw me see her waved when I saw her naked, 2 others a year later smiled about it a while later, but another from the same group wouldn't talk to me for a few months.
