What does it mean when a guys responds first with a smile then stops responding... How bad is that?

Well I was talking to this guy that I like so much were we had a few dates but its hard when we don't chill as much and when we do its good then its go back to him going missing for a few months. Then after the blue he pop up and ask to see me and I was like I'm done with you cause you really make me feel like their nuthing to you. Since then he got the message. He was mad but when you don't put effort. I shouldn't out myself out there. Well a few later I was party, having a blast and out of the blue I text him saying I miss him and wish he can come back and he responded with a "smile"... As a guy what does that mean and than today I admitted that I really do miss him and wish he never meet me cause I have to feel like their will never b a chance for us to go back to see where we let off. Then I said some real stuff to him and he hates it but all he did was read it and never respond... I hate it does he care idk... And when I tried ...all he says is "idk" "maybe" like he doesn't put the effort in. He wants me to b nice its like I do and yet he back to his old tricks. As a guy do I have a chance? I still have a lot guys coming to me but I want him... that may sound bad :(
