How do I recover from an awkward conversation

I tried to talk to this girl I like after class. She was kind of nervous and stiff and I guess I'm not great at conversation and it ended up being awkward.

I don't know what to do next. She looks at me a lot and smiles at me so I thought she liked me :(

I'm of the mind that If you're not completely able then you should at least be prepared.

Given your situation I might might keep a couple universal conversations stored for girls and create objectives like getting them to laugh one conversation then open up a little and share something personal the next.

I'm also of the mind it's okay to be a little nervous and even somewhat awkward around girls. A little bit can be attractive so long as you keep it from becoming debilitating.

Know your weakness then find a way to overcome it. Don't go in empty handed.

Don't get discouraged after one awkward conversation! You can totally make up for it next time you see her by just smiling and being really friendly with her. Since she has already had one conversation with you and is familiar with who you are, she probably won't be as nervous or caught off guard when you approach her for the second time. I think the trick to having a good conversation is finding and talking about something you both have in common, whether it's music taste, a sport, an opinion, an interest, etc.

I was a girl in a similar conversation not too long ago. I was in class and someone talked to me after it to catch up on the last class. They were someone I actually thought was pretty cool, but I have zero social skills, so when they talked to me I was really shy. I think she's probably like me. Just be nice, that's all you can do. Us shy girls are typically shy either because we know we have no social skills or because we're nervous. It happens.
