I drank a bottle of Mountain Dew and I feel really sick?

Should I go see a doctor or is that like a wanted side effect?

I'm visiting the U.S. for the first time (I'm from italy) and I saw this really fancy looking soda in the store called mountain dew. So I bought a bottle and drank it (roughly half a liter).

Since then I'm feeling really weird, I got headache, I'm shaking, I'm feeling dizzy, a bit like being drunk and I feel my heart is racing.

I'm really surprised by that reaction, it is just soda isn't it? So is that what people want it to do or should go to a hospital?

It's loaded with sugar and chemicals of all kinds, so if you aren't used to it, it will make you sick,mostly from th esudden sugar high and subsequent crash. Or, you might have an allegy to some of th eother chemicals in it.

I'm sure if you stay away from sugar for a couple of hours, this effect will subside. Don't worry. You're just not used to the sudden sugar onslaught!

Worry about all the kids who drink a lot of this stuff daily, and what it's doing to THEM!

You see how fat so many of even the yooung kids are. AND many of the adults as well!

Mountain Dew has a higher caffeine content than even Coke. You may be reacting to that? Also, my European friends and I noticed that in the U.S. the sodas are way more sugar-y and sharper than what we were used to back home.

I wouldn't worry, and would wait until the symptoms subside. If they aren't gone by tomorrow, go see a doctor (and I hope you have travel insurance because that will cost you an arm and a leg).

sometimes that happens to me, don't go to the doctor unless you have money to burn. just wait it out, take it easy, sit down and do something to calm yourself... also... drink water but maybe wait a while if your stomach is really full. And if you feel really bad, get yourself to puke it up then swish some baking soda mixed with water to neutralize the acid.

You have just had too much caffeine and sugar. Mountain Dew specifically contains a lot of caffeine. You will be fine, although you may throw up depending on how fast you drank it and you probably won't be able to sleep for awhile.

It has more caffeine and sugar than most American sodas (excluding the absurd energy drinks that are popular right now). If you're not used to caffeine at all I can see you getting shaky and having your heart beat faster. The drunk feeling is rather weird, but I suspect you're fine. Ultimately, though, don't rely on an internet forum to determine whether or not you need medical attention - go to a doctor if it gets worse or if you're feeling really awful.

My teenaged uncle drinks this all the time - I haven't heard he's had any issues; not even when he was starting drinking it.

But then again, there's also a drink called "Mountain Dew Energy", and if you've had that that could possibly cause those reactions - I drank that drink once and felt a rush, but not any symptoms you described, and decided against drinking that "Energy" ever again

Mountain Dew does not typically give that effect.

Maybe you're just not used to the caffeine or the amount of sugar in it? It sounds like you just got a caffeine overload. I think you will be fine but if you're truly worried then go to a doctor.

super high amounts of caffeine and sugar.. I don't think you need to go to the hospital as you are probably just on a serious sugar caffeine high...

I have the same reaction to Mountain Dew as well as other sodas. It just means you're really sensitive to caffeine and can only handle it in small doses.

Which is weird to me, because in Canada it has no caffeine.

It’s the combination of caffeine, sugar, and other chemicals (many of which are banned in Europe, by the way). Give it a day.
